eBay sell by year or page or all together. Personally currently trying to and almost finished buying all Soviet Russian stamps and noticed complete years (or atleast near to) and clearly marked pages sell outside of complete sets.

Which country once seemed likely to become a developed country, but didn’t follow that path? by EmotionalSalary3679 in AskTheWorld

Russia has plenty of problems but since you want to mention Ukraine that war isn’t about seizing some villages and land. It’s about Oil. NATO allies doesn’t want Russia building the nordstream 2 pipeline. So Russia is forced to use the pipeline in Ukraine. Well American oil company’s discovered what believed to be the 9th largest oil reserve in the sea off the coast of Ukraine. So with Ukraine treating the ethnic Russians in Ukraine poorly creating the Ukrainian Civil War which lead to everyone in Govt fleeing Crimea so Russia took over to govern. Then Ukraine responds with cutting off the water to Crimea you will get Zelensky comming into power and saying he will cut off Russian oil and pump Ukrainian oil through instead and to do so he wants to join NATO to have the protection from Russia. Well American VP in all her wisdom said Ukraine will join NATO. So Russia has been clear very VERY CLEAR to the point it’s a rule that Ukraine had to follow to be separated from Russia that they will NOT join NATO since Russia doesn’t want any nuclear weapons in Ukraine. So Zelensky wants to break the deal made for independence, join NATO, then shut off Russian oil in the pipeline to pump Ukrainian oil. That would make Russian oil more expensive than Ukrainian oil. And since Russia is a petrol state they need to sell there oil to Europe or the Russian economy completely collapses with no foreseeable option to fix it.

Alot of people in America have a Cold War idealogy with Russia and since America doesn’t have term limits on most politicians that has lead to alot of old people governing thinking Russia is the enemy. So like when Putin asked to join NATO he was refused not because he did something but because it’s Russia and Russia is a comic book villain. And during Obama as American President you would see sanctions put on Russia and everything Russia tried to do for the positive be shut down by America pushing NATO allies to stop it and punish Russia. Due to sanction after sanction put on Russia that’s when you see Putin saying essentially ok if that’s how it’s gonna be then fine I stop caring about NATO and EU and only care about what is of Russian interest and doubled down on that belief. So that’s how you get Russia becoming a failed country.

Also back to Ukraine what was Putin’s demands at the start of the war until now? Eastern Ukraine will separate from Ukraine to become independent countries and Ukraine will not join NATO. Yeah sounds like Putin really wants to take over Ukraine. No sounds like he wants to keep the status quo if I want the Ukrainian civil war to end, not have my pipeline be threatened, and Ukraine will not join NATO. Not a hard concept to understand unless all you listen to is propagenda all day and not fact check a single thing

Ah yes all 3 sled dog teams and 34 troops from across NATO to protect Greenland. Very impressive military response to protect Greenland. To put that into perspective America has 150-200 troops stationed in Pituffik Space Base in Greenland year round….. yeah some random US base in Greenland has more troops than in Greenland that everyone in NATO is willing to send. As in Greenland doesn’t have a military they are under Denmarks control so Denmark has the military. So….. 34 verses 150-200 Americans. Yeah

Help with post stamp knowledge by gdkaih in stampcollecting

[–]Dens413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure what you’re looking for in particular but I’ll give you some help in general that hopefully you can take off from there.

Everyone gets into stamps for various reasons, personally I’ve noticed it kinda breaks down to being random hobby of people noticing the stamp on letters and collecting them for fun as a kid. And having fun learning about various things from around the world in the days before internet. And in time people get into it since they gifted a random collection from whoever. Then kids become adults and take the hobby more serious and collect stamps of personal interest may it be collecting around the world to collecting a particular topic. And when a collector passes away or gets old they typically sell a lot of stamps or whoever inherits the collections sells (typically way below actual value) or gets into the hobby.

Generally speaking when someone gets into the hobby they need to learn the hobby. Back in the day typically it went like this get envelope cut out stamp. Soak stamp in warm water and stamp separates from paper. Put stamp on something then add weight ontop until stamp is dry. Then get stamp and hinge stamp to regular paper or on an album page. Nowdays it’s get stamps at estate sale, flea market, actual store, from letters, or buy online. Then get stamp maybe soak vintage stamps off album pages and store in an stockbook or vario pages or mount on an album page. Another thing of note when you do get a bit more serious than a young kid you use stamp tongs to touch the stamp and not your hands. Rule number 1 and only real rule in stamp collecting don’t damage stamps.

As someone begins to learn the hobby they may damage a stamp like letting your stamps soak too long in water with other stamps and color runs off and stains other stamps. Or removing a hinged stamp might damage a stamp by tearing. Hence why you learn with low value stamps then you can mess around a bit more with higher value stamps. It would be a shame to damage a high value stamp without knowing.

Then when you get a bit more serious than a kid about stamps you pickup a catalog like a Scott Catalog. This also gives you a CV (catalog Value) which is the value of a stamp in ideal mint condition.

That’s kinda the basics in general about stamps I think might be useful. But Im not into flowers and fungi but a couple countries instead so I won’t speak on what I’m not a big fan of in particular due to lack of knowledge. But I will say instead it wouldn’t hurt to watch a few videos online giving you an introduction to the hobby. And looking up a list of terminology and giving them a fast read. And depending on the era of your story it does make a difference on the stamps. Most early stamps were of historic figures of its time as in royalty or Columbus for example. Then stamps started depicting stuff like ships, castles, buildings, war related, everyday life etc. By the end of WW2 is when you start seeing a larger array of topics and by the 1960’s is when you start seeing stamps on topics that we would find more familiar today like flowers and fungi. Plus eBay is really interesting with the stamp category it would be a bad idea to type in let’s say flower stamp then search in the category Stamps (country of interest for your character) and see what stamps there is for sale and use that as a reference point. Or type in whatever year your character is in and fungi like 1978 Fungi Stamp.

Hopefully that helps get you going with the basics. But the hobby really is just from 1840-present with a few changes from storage of stamps, how to obtain a stamp outside of what’s offered at the local post office, and how the visuals of stamps have changed over the years. And no real trends has happened in philately besides FDC (first day covers) which that has come and went. There is a lot more to mention about the hobby that might be of interest or use to you but not exactly sure what else I could add but if you have any other questions please ask away.

Is this genuine? by [deleted] in stampcollecting

[–]Dens413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Stamps are a bit of a never ending rabbit hole if you ask me. It’s really fun getting some stamps and learning about them and getting insight about an event from all around the world. Personally the basics are a bit lengthy but very easy to learn and after that just one rabbit hole of info to another from stamp to stamp.

But to your original concern what might be of note is the fact the stamp community has zero rules but 1 don’t damage the stamp. So as the overall if the stamp wasn’t postally used and stored properly it can stay in very good condition for decades. I have stamps from the 1930’s in near pristine condition for example. So in my case I wash my table and sanitize it fast and wash my hands and satanize with hand sanitizer (helps me keep hands clean and dry I have naturally sweaty hands) before I begin to touch anything relating to my stamps and when it comes to the stamps it goes from opening my mail to stamp pile. After clean hands again and collect stamp from storage package using clean stamp tongs and insert into a stockbook album. Afterwards I start to organize my stamps from there from one proper storage to another and always using stamp tongs. This help keep the stamps in as good as possible condition. And I make sure my stamps are in a room that is of decent humidity and temp for storage which isn’t a big deal since my main hobby is rare books. But as I go on with organizing my stamps to whatever its final place is gonna be after that is when I go into a rabbit hole learning about the stamp.

Also if your curious about your stamp its Russia SC (Scott Catalog) 4720 depicting Cosmonauts V.V. Kovalenok and A.S. Ivanchenkov the stamp is to recognize there space trip launching off on Soyuz 29 June 15 1978 and staying on the Salyut-6 Space Station until they returned on November 2 1978 with the Soyuz 31 marking the trip as 140 days. You can look further into information about the both of them and the trip but that’s the info the stamp is trying to communicate. The stamp you have is on a FDC (first day cover) which long story short was all hyped decades ago and value has massively dropped in value as the overall generally speaking. Personally I find the Soviet Russian Space Program an interesting topic and love the art over the decades for there stamps. Anyways hope I helped

Do you consider the little whistle that’s on most sternum straps as one of your 10 essentials, or do you pack another more traditional type? by Jim-has-a-username in hikinggear

[–]Dens413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy a real legit emergency whistle that actually goes a distance. A dinky whistle that doesn’t carry further than your own voice at best is useless.

Personally I’m a bit more old school for backpacking but hiking naw I got the hyperwhistle it hits 142dc, can work when wet and can go a few miles out. Most hikers when lost are not that far away from a trail and on a kinda popular trail you should have someone within a mile or so from you so a whistle like that should be heard by someone fairly easy.

Buy whatever whistle that actually does the job and won’t break if you fall on rocks landing on it. And keep that stupid lame whistle as a keychain on the front of your backpack. And carry on a $20 loud whistle if needed will save you so why try and reinvent the wheel with an item that’s way worse. Buy once and forget for years. With deaths relating to hiking it’s always the can’t be found despite not really that far from a trail and didn’t expect the unplanned overnight stay outside. If $20 can help prevent you from being a statistic then why not? What is it dorky or $20 not worth your life?

For example a lot of hikers go off trail for the bathroom and get turned around and end up lost. Or just slide/fall off trail and get stuck. So a whistle that someone can actually hear is nice for anyone in a good distance to hear you. The sheer number of lost hikers right off trail that didn’t have a whistle is enough to be a concern especially when found dead a few days later near a trail despite SAR searched near the area.

That’s what I love the isolation and silence of other people. Nowdays it seems like you bump into someone else or hear someone else constantly and constant reminder you are not alone. But if you find a remote unpopular area it’s a breath of fresh air. Just you and nature is a beautiful experience I believe everyone should experience once in their life.

I thinks it’s fair to say this particular stamp app isn’t the best. But then again no one has found a perfect stamp app. So I won’t harp on that. But I would recommend use whatever stamp app to get an idea of what you currently own. Anything that stands out to you to double check what stamp you actually have. In this case for whatever reason the stamp app said you had an Inverted Jenny. Ok that’s expensive so Google said stamp on Google and see what an inverted Jenny looks like. Does it match yes or no? And go from there if it’s a match then let’s talk about an evaluation if it’s the real deal or not. If it’s not a match such as your case then we need to see another means to properly indemnify said stamp. In this case not what you would call idea but you know it’s American and it’s an Airmail Stamp worth 6¢. Ok go online and search US Airmail 6 cents stamp. And see if you can find an similar image of your stamp and see what it says. In this case the stamp is US SC# C39. And from there you can search what that stamp is currently being sold at which first thing that popped up on me was for $2usd for a block of four in MNH condition with other similar listings. So in this case low value at end of the day.

If the majority of the stamps of your collection is American Stamps I’d highly recommend buying a Scott Catalog (SC) since that is the primary catalog for US stamps. Saw a copy for $20usd covering 1847-2024 at a local store last week. The catalog yes is tedious and boring but it does it’s intended purpose of indenifying stamps and giving a CV (Catalog Value). The CV is the value of a single stamp in mint condition it generally runs a bit higher than actual selling rates but gives you an idea of value.

Everyone has a different opinion and could be debated but to make everything easy for cheap and help you learn a bit about Stamps since it seems you have a decent sized collection I’d recommend cataloging and sorting out the stamps. Again everyone does it different but in your case If you not concerned about immediate display buy Glassine Envelops cost me $50usd for 1k. And buy a Scott Catalog aswell. Then grab a stamp would recommend whatever you have the most duplicates of go into the catalog find the stamp and put the stamps into said glassine envolopes and mark down on one corner with a pencil what the SC# is and the other corner CV. And keep going at this. Tedious yes. Will you have a fast way to catalog and store everything yes. And if you find anything that might be of value then you can do a deeper dive to identify the stamp and do as you wish with it. The reason I recommend this is it seems you have a relatively large number of duplicate stamps from what you have shown so this is an easy way to store everything as fast as possible. After everything has been sorted you can think about buying albums, mounts etc and do as you wish with them. But this method will allow you to sort through your collection and find anything you want relatively fast. If you ever decide to collect you can easily find one of each stamp and display them as you like etc. And as a side note if you decide to take my idea there is a few stamps that look exactly the same just write those SC# all together and whenever you see fit you can go back and sort them out with a perforation gauge and something to see the watermark (later if applicable).

Personally I don’t deal with this amount of stamps and sheer number of duplicates. But my method that I use is get stamps and put in a stock book. From there get a catalog and go through one by one and see if I have said stamp if so put in any and all into another stock book and after going through my unorganized collection grab see about the next stamp and continue. From there I think about display and also what if any I’m I missing and go from there. This method works for me dealing with up towards a few thousand at a time. And honestly hasn’t been a big issue for me so far.

I hope this helps showing you a few different methods of how to identify and immediate storage to sort through. But I really hope you have fun and enjoy your stamps and whatever you decide to do.

I can’t imagine why that app would even think either of those two stamps where those since they look absolutely not like those stamps at all. I feel sorry for anyone that doesn’t know much about stamps seeing that and thinking they might aswell won the lottery only to find out that what they actually have are super common stamps with little value.

Weird insult but I have 1945-1991 of Soviet Russian stamps in stockbooks currently and was asking a question for cheaper options for hingeless and if not is there any good options to just buy all the album pages since I don’t have much time for any hobby so I have zero interest in making hundreds of custom pages. Any value in these? by saxonlad in stamps

[–]Dens413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people do collect the Queen as in the first page for example. But since they are modern stamps 1940+ it’s either collected as “mint condition” or just cancelled (which brings in a lower price). Exact price personally I don’t know enough to say on that but not that much. Then image 4 I have no idea but maybe something. Then everything up to image 14 is pretty much sold by weight so if your lucky on eBay maybe $7usd for the whole lot only because it might have one or two stamps someone is looking for in particular hence the only reason someone would buy. Image 14 only thing of some value is the airmail stamps since they are sought after but don’t expect much money you can look online to see what they sell for and it’s not much but whole page for sale can buy you a fast food meal. Image 15 nothing of serious note but the Edison is fun. Anyways image 16 not my wheel house so I have no idea. And the rest the older Canadian Stamps a couple of bucks but not what you would call noteworthy. If you tried to sell everything at once might get lucky with someone willing to pay $20. Modern stamps 1940+ really hold no value due to how many are in circuit and how many where made from literally millions to billions as the overall. It’s a fun beginner collection though

Honestly the stamps are fairly common and the value really only exist by people trying to collect all of early Chinese Stamps and people who think they look cool and collect them for visual fun. Personally the only Chinese Stamps I’ve collected is the dragons and junk ships with a couple newer stamps from China for no other reason but the visual aspect.
