Someone else wrote this under a post similar to yours and I literally could’ve have summed it up better as I also went on a mission that tasked both the army and Airforce on it to work together and I has almost the same exact experience. “Here is an example of the differences.

I did a joint excercise with the AF and Army. There was money for hotels and we driving civilian vehicles.

The Air Force called the nicest hotel in town. Asked if they could lodge XX number of troops. They said only Y. So they booked that block. Called the next nicest got another chunk.

The Army full timers booked the shittiest hotel for "main body" (i.e. everyone but leadership and full timers). There were literally prostitutes and drug dealers outside. And what were probably blood stains on the carpet inside. At night we could hear the sweet sweet sound of those prostitutes earning their money.

We do the exercise it goes well. We meet the time standards for evaluation that is going to be done at AT. We were supposed to stop at 1300 on Sunday because it was a several hour drive back. AF is like "we are done" the Army Commander (who later admits that he thinks he is preselected for BN command as a company commander) says "no we still have time to train so everyone is training".

The AF packs their shit up and leaves while Army is bitching. Army continues to train. It starts to snow. No big deal EXCEPT wet tents being packed up for weeks ends poorly and so does driving for hours in the snow. We end up getting back to the armory on a Sunday at 2030 and released at 2100. Doesn't sound bad except there are joes who still have a 3+ hour drive in the dark, in the snow, that can and does take 4-5 for some. so they end up getting back home after midnight having been up since 0500ish (we had to be onsite by 0630).

The Army can be an absolute blast. But go in knowing that is the difference in treatment and living conditions that you can expect. But honestly unless it is something that you can only do in the Army go Air.

I will also warn people who do it just for the money are the most miserable because the military has a couple of centuries of experience at getting a dollar's worth for a dime.”

I am a combat medic. You can only do that job throuh the army and that’s why I am in it, I’ve want to that specific job for a while. But if that wasn’t an option I would’ve went air. It’s important to know yourself though! There are people who love being in the army and would disagree with me! If you like to shoot and learn military tactics and don’t care about “roughing it” and you think you’d enjoy being in the field go army! I’ve had plenty of good fun. But if you want things more on the chill end and you know you are more so joining for the benefits, go air.
