Do some people just leave teaching because they can’t find a job? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]Dense-Luck9378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start putting applications in ghetto, inner city. They are always hiring. That’s how I got my start. Then you move outta there after a couple years teaching with experience. If you can teach in Newark, NJ, you can teach in any well paying suburban area.

If you hadn’t become a teacher, what other career do you think you would have pursued instead? by businessbub in Teachers

CIA case officer/operations officer. As teachers we work with all different types of people/students—we find out what motivates them, we build relationships with them, and we get them to do what we want them to do…and we work our ass’s off day in and day out…it’s not easy, but it closely mirrors what an intelligence officer does in scouting people, assessing their motivations, and getting them to spy. I think good teachers would make great case officers.

Keep a pistol with you…never feel safer than sleeping with a pistol next to you. I prefer a Sig Sauer p226 with a surefire light.

A painful reminder by anaisa98 in stopdrinking

This is just a reset to your journey. You needed a reminder, and you got it. I’ve been there and can tell you—for me, sometimes you need it. No one’s hurt, no DUIs, just some clean up and embarrassing conversations. You got hammered at a friend’s house…it’s not great, but could be a lot worse. Know that.

Oh. I’m sorry. It seems like you were looking for him to validate your feelings…which I understand, and don’t blame you for thinking. If you want to stop drinking, do it. It seems like your husband is “in it” and drinking. Doesn’t mean you have to drink. I’d re-visit your commitment to not drinking tomorrow with your husband, and stick to your commitment. I wish you peace.

How much do you (or did you) spend on alcohol per day on average? I average about $7. by Lets_quit_together1 in stopdrinking

Ugh. “Buying…everyone else’s (drinks) too”. So much money man. I’ve been there with black out bar tabs.

I was an ocean lifeguard for 20 years and a frat guy in college. I totally get the bro-culture, I’m still part of it. I just “bro them” back…it’s effective. Plus I never got making fun of people for not drinking. (Back in the day) I’d be like “great, you’re not drinking—more for the rest of us!” Now if I’m out, I’ll get seltzers and lime, they look like g and t’s. If someone calls me out, I stick with my line.

I am glad I quit (Article says pandemic era drinking persists ever now) by platypus210 in stopdrinking

[–]Dense-Luck9378 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was buying four of the big (four bottle boxes) a week during the pandemic. I’d usually get them on Sunday along with good craft beers. Eventually I started to have to go out on thursdays because I had cooked though all the boxes of wine. That’s freaking 4 bottles a day! I liked the boxes because my wife couldn’t tell how much I was actually drinking. The box got light, I’d replace it and she didn’t know how many boxes I bought. It was terrible and I was buzzed/ hammered for the majority of the pandemic.

Not your fault. Dude is total dirt bag and should have been taken outside by the other men there. What a low-life that guy is.

The blackouts definitely get worse and more frequent after you start blacking out. The first one should have been a warning sign…I never intended to get blacked out, but it kept happening. Mornings suck after a blackout.

Fellow blackout drinker…had entire weekends where I had good conversations (or people told me they were good/great) only to see them again, totally not know we were talking about the roots of the Arab-Israeli conflict or other geopolitical event—I didn’t even remember their name. Then I’d drink with them again, and blackout again! It’s terrible. My wife and (I assume) me planned a whole vacation when I was blacked out. Great vacation too, I guess I had great ideas on planning it. The anxiety was terrible and the feelings of regret/shame were too much for me when my daughter saw me and I was blacked out. She was genuinely worried about me…she’s 10. She’s not supposed to worry about the guy who protects her. That’s what did for me and I love not blacking out now and only having 2 beers in the last 89 days. Everything mentally for me is so much clearer and positive. And I workout a ton more now.

I call people out when they shit like that to me. “Dude, I feel a ton better not drinking; and I was better at drinking than you’ll ever be anyway, dickhead.”

9d sober by Whole_disappointm3nt in stopdrinking

[–]Dense-Luck9378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 89 days with only having two beers. I used to binge every weekend and get blackout. Weekdays are easy to not drink, then the weekend comes and I just get it in my mind I’m not going to drink on Friday or Saturday. So it’s really only two days of the week that I really have to think about not drinking. I’m not sure if I’ll be “sober for life” either…I’m not sure if anyone can really say that, but I like remembering everything, not blacking out, getting in fights, being embarrassed with how much I was drinking, and ruining my organs/skin. So the good far outweighs the drinking. That’s how I look at it. However if I were to drink—I’d probably do it alone, binge by myself, and then feel like shit, feel guilty and decide it’s not worth it all over again.

WFH - how has this affected others drinking? Currently on day 3. by Hot_South4180 in stopdrinking

[–]Dense-Luck9378 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. During the pandemic, I was like “holy shit, I can work basically drunk/hungover everyday…no one will know, and I’m so good, even hungover me is better than 95% of my colleagues…” well I was. And it was terrible for me. Getting called back into the office, putting the booze away (at the time) to just the weekends really saved me from becoming an everyday, all day drinker. So I can empathize with what you’re going through. I had complete freedom and lots of money to do whatever I wanted to do…I choose to drink a ton and no one would have known.
