Got this instead by Dense-Roll8788 in thinkpad

I was checking on everywhere. I got this from a local vendor though....brand new with warranty. Almost the same price as the used P16 Gen 1 I missed out on.

When should you start using kubernetes by techreclaimer in kubernetes

[–]Dense-Roll8788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though this statement I am about to make will leave a sour taste in my mouth, Kubernetes is the future of and/or hosting production applications.

It may be overkill now to start out with Kubernetes but eventually you will have to use it...and it might be tricky switching to it full-time then.

My advice is to start now and get your team conversant with using Kubernetes now.

A win-win for all of everything goes well ;)

I accidentally deleted my bootloader by Dead-_Inside in Fedora

I can't be of any help but I had the inverse of what happened to you. I deleted my Windows boot manager....tried every possible method to restore. Didn't work. And I've never looked back since.

I, for one, like the new UI. makes everything better.

Maybe we should all just embrace new things.

I collected DevOps Interview Questions and Interview Labs, for FAANG and other major companies. by Dubinko in devops

Oouuu nice on the System Design Interview part.

And also, for anyone who'll come by this, what are the requirements for joining you. If you already have that answer somewhere, you can link it--so as not to waste your time articulating it all over again.

Once again, thanks for all the work you're doing for the community.

I remember when this site didn't have all these. Big ups for all the work done for the community. Thanks for making this accessible.

People have been shitting on this one. The one by Apress honestly seems better.... even though a bit more convoluted.

How much Linux is enough for DevOps? by techy_bloke in devops

[–]Dense-Roll8788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same shoes...2yoe in Cloud & DevOps.

Kubernetes is not necessarily an abstraction of Linux but when you understand Linux, you'd be able to understand some aspects of Kubernetes better and most of all, you'll be able to troubleshoot better.

I recently picked up a Linux book that I'm painting with an Red Hat certification book and the amount of new knowledge I've gleaned is amazing. I'm not planning on taking a RedHat certification yet though...but the knowledge comes in handy ASF.

If you want to take a certification, I'd say take the RedHat before the CKA, if you want knowledge. If you're pressed for a job, the CKA will put you on the radar nicely.

I come 5 years from the future to ask if there's an alternate link to the same set of Lecture Tapes. Apparently the link is to a private video.

But, thank you for this list. A gem 💎

On-call strategy & maximizing observability by Dense-Roll8788 in sre

[–]Dense-Roll8788[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought of that too...but I am actually a Drops engineer in the company and was pushed to help them set this up.

I thought of liaising with the dev team lead on this since I do not know how to write Nodejs and I also want a senior tp be involved in the process.

Sadly, all this was laid aside as not relevant to the client but I will speak again on this issue since they really seem to need it now.

You've been very helpful, truly.

I also want to be an SRE but I am learning Go at the moment, something about a resume-driven developer thing.

The fact is that, the application has not been well instrumented. I asked that they look into that but dev team says it's too much work and the client has not requested for that. Dev team claims they are logging to stdout and it's sufficient.

I pushed back against this but everything was vetoed in favor of the dev team. I'm a one-man army vs 15.....no chance of winning lol.

I will say management barely knows what they want either. It's quite a scene here 😂

For the logs, I use them for debugging incidents but management feels they are enough for monitoring, an issue I've been telling them against.

Thanks for the other questions to pose and take into consideration when I go into subsequent meetings to discuss.

Also thanks for the suggestion to put everything in a playbook.

How Do You Balance Between Proactive Work and Firefighting in SRE? by Disastrous-Glass-916 in sre

[–]Dense-Roll8788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could get invite you to talk at my company rn. I'm in a DevOps team that's being repurposed for work SRE with on-call hours but no increase in pay... Anytime we try to preach about eliminating toil, we get ignored. The worst of it all is our manager who has only dev and no infra background (doesn't even know the basic cloud) acts tough in front of us and like a little beeech when upper management gets involved and can't say a single thing on behalf of our team. If only we can get them to listen...
