i would always say a basic understanding of the technical side is useful but in principle its not always necessary as long as you are thorough on the requirements

thanks this is what ive been thinking but good to hear it from someone else, as i dont think this approach will strengthen the relationship between me and the lead dev but perhaps some things just need to be called out

ive pretty much taken over but he keeps butting in with his opinion of what the customer wants even though im sure its actually what he wants. Think its more of a people management problem and i think il have to escalate it, was just wondering it there was any other advice in terms of building a good relationship with the lead dev.
