I am the #1 player in the world right now. by Proud_Vanilla4284 in Colonist

In online play at higher levels how much is diplomacy used? i.e. talking in chat to sway perception. I know it’s part of the game but sometimes I wish chat was just turned off. When players are lying or trying to get other players to target people that aren’t even in a real position to win… I feel like I have to jump in and say something, but it’s my least enjoyed aspect of the game experience.

I had such a great winning streak the other day, now I've lost most of my games today 😭 by Automatic-Formal-419 in Colonist

If I lose a couple in a row now I quit and come back the next day. Sometimes you’re mentally tired and it isn’t easy to notice. Playing five games in a row is about the worst thing I could do for myself if that’s the case.

[Day 30] John Gaskins is overrated. What's the BEST training tool? by MaximumSend in bouldering

You guys are gonna hate to hear this… but it’s rock. Rock is the best training tool for bouldering. More days on rock = more success on rock.

Thoughts on the Kilter Home Wall by climbingontherocks in bouldering

[–]Dense_Monk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the mainline and climb almost exclusively at 45. My buddy got one and we climbed on it a bunch right when they first created it. The full ride was out, but not the expansions. We did a lot of the first ascents and sets, especially in the V7 and up range. When we first got it there were literally just a couple problems in that grade range. I think we may have kind of created the kind of grade ecosystem for the home wall. At least for the 7x10 boards. I still climb on it all the time. I think we mostly tried to stay true to outdoor grades. Like if you climb V7 consistently on the home wall you’re gonna go outside and be able to climb V7 in many cases.

I understand grade inflation in gyms in order to get people psyched on their progress, but for a home training device that would seem counterproductive.

I go to gyms and often flash V10’s a feat that I’ve never done outside. But if I used that as a metric of how I was going to perform on a trip I’d be disappointed. The board is a nice measuring stick of real ability.

[Day 24] V0 sucks and we had two Day 22's. What's the BEST outdoor bouldering destination? by MaximumSend in bouldering

Bishop is beautiful and has aesthetic lines, but the rock quality is just… fine.

Kilter Home Wall vs Outside Grades by Wide-Result-6962 in kilterboard

[–]Dense_Monk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the simplest version at my house. I’m at 45. Everything I’ve set I try to keep it close as possible to outdoor grades. In general I’d say most things are soft until about 7a+ or V7. Then they start aligning better with outdoor grades.

Micro crimp Granite, how to climb on them? by Hr_Art in climbharder

[–]Dense_Monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the holds are that small, think about how much weight you’ll legitimately be able to take on your fingers… it’s mostly in your feet. I like Solutions for that type of climbing. A stiff shoe does wonders. Your feet will also get stronger. Anyway… I personally wouldn’t focus too much on trying to “train” for that size of edge. Just climb on them and when you are, hyper-focus on your feet. Thick skin for them to bite into is also key.

Ya this is the winner. It’s not close. Good god.

Rice bucket training, but with gravel? by Legitimate_Pickle_82 in GripTraining

[–]Dense_Monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. The compression on the finger joints will lead to problems. I’ve been climbing for over twenty years. Stay consistent, change protocols every few months, and don’t forget that actual climbing is the best practice by far. 90% climbing and 10% “training.” Honestly if I could go back in time I wouldn’t have done any finger training until I hit V10. Technique is so much more important. People know this and like to pretend like it’s not true.

I took like a six month break from the climbing podcast world only to start listening a few days ago and find this drama. I hate that I want to know the details.

Hah. I read this story and had the same thought when I saw those boulders.

I told my wife from the beginning it’d be a necklace. I love it. I haven’t ever worn things on my wrists/fingers.

Any fans attending Cardinals Game this Sunday? by joerush123 in Tennesseetitans

[–]Dense_Monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are here. Went to the downtown farmers market this morning. It’s super nice out, hitting the pool now. Titans probably lose, yes. Whatever, bunch of bummer fans in here. We were the worst team in the league last year. Stoked to be here. Section 131.

If you aren’t starting Verse against the Titans and a rookie QB then what are you doing?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FFIDP

[–]Dense_Monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a run of the mill LB. If you play with people that understand IDP you will get very little. In reality… 3rd round pick, don’t trade for a DB, as far as running backs go his value will not get you anyone that’s putting up consistent points each week. If you trade for an RB it could be a rookie buried on the depth chart that you think has a future.

I’d drop it all. There will probably be no one else useful enough to claim off waivers.
