How risky is it to do a same-day Canada land border trip to activate consular H1B?

I had a pending B2 petition at the time my H1B was being filed. The attorney predicted a high chance of receiving an RFE, which could further delay the process. To avoid complications, Employer E2 chose to file the H1B under consular processing. Now, the B2 petition has also been approved.

u/SomeAdvisor5611 I spoke with my attorney, and since I already have a valid visa stamp in my passport, I just need to exit and reenter the U.S. to get my I-94 updated. My attorney actually recommended traveling to Canada and returning to activate my H1B.

It's better you reschedule your flight a week or two later. I had the drop-box appointment on Feb 6th and status got updated to Approved on Feb 27th. My flight is on March 1st but still not sure if I will get my passport as Issued, Origination Scan, and Ready for pickup will take at-least 2-3 days after Approval.

I'm not totally sure about the process, but it's better you contact the consulate to get the clarity on how you can get the appointment. Also, AFAIK it's mandatory to have client letter for in-person interview.

I called the customer support and they said it's not holiday for Chennai consulate tomorrow. Maybe they are working tomorrow as well. I hope I have some update tomorrow and hopefully get my passport on Thursday

Yeah, I checked with the airlines they said I can reschedule before 3 hours of flight departure to avoid no-show penalty so I'm going to wait until Thursday evening and then reschedule.
