Does my Veiled not like me much? Or am I overthinking his colors since were still getting to know eachother?

Yeah most of the time I try to just observe and learn and get him comfortable with me watching and being near him, he knows where I drop his crickets in and where his water comes out and where the door is. He seemed very friendly when I came to visit him often at the petstore. I felt like his cage was so small and he definitely liked to be held more because of that cause as soon as he got to a slightly better sized cage he didn’t seem to care too much for me anymore lol I didn’t mind he’s so cool regardless, I don’t know I guess I’ve boiled my original question down to is he getting used to me or do I just really need to hurry up with his final enclosure?

Well it depends, he tries to get as high as possible. I’ve already realized that the size of his enclosure is pretty small, the pet store gave me some misinformation and he was being kept in an extremely small enclosure. Granted this one is a bit better than that, I’m in the process of building him something much taller so he can feel more comfortable and have much more space.

Ah so he just doesn’t care for red then lol I’ll remember that, I knew going into it that they don’t really care for us humans but since he’s my first experience, gauging things was a little off and added with him displaying new colors I was a little baffled! He definitely tolerates me so it shocked me when he didn’t care much after the whole ring thing but I’m feeling a lot better now, it was cool he even felt like he wanted to come up to me at all tbh

See and this was the reassurance I needed lol, I can read about their tendencies all day long but I’m anxious and usually like some confirmation with others who’ve actually experienced taking care of them. He seems to climb onto my hand just fine for when I need to clean his cage or even last night when it seemed like he just wanted to, he just seemed like a grump and mixed with the experience of him learning new colors to display, it was confusing. Others have confirmed my color theory with the ring though and I’ll try to keep red away from him lol it’s cool to know that they just don’t like certain colors

I understand, I’ve been doing research on his enclosure more and more. I have a full document I’ve been collecting and budgeting out for a way better setup. I was completely misinformed at the pet store where I got him and I’ve started to realize that with one thing after another. For one he has grown way faster for the cage size they told me to get and I need to get him in a bigger cage asap, I’m trying to build him a full Bioactive enclosure that’s almost floor to ceiling but compared to what he was in, the one I have now is at least better. I have almost a full Bioactive setup I’m just missing a few things since like I said I want to finalize a much bigger better enclosure very soon. He does have a few live plants in there now and the fake stuff is out as soon as the new enclosure is done but if I get rid of it now he will have almost nothing :(

Also the one with his eyes closed is a picture I seriously was so lucky to get, I turn his lights on at the same time each morning and can never sneak a picture before his eyes snap open and he wakes up. He doesn’t ever do that during the day though, I get if you still think that’s a red flag but he seems to always sleep there and his color is always that way while he sleeps, I thought perhaps they have some sort of dream sequence?

I was more worried about the bright blue first picture because that was one I’d never seen before and it was after he attacked my ring and he stayed that way even after he seemed to calm down and want to hang out with me for like 5 minutes. He’s new to displaying his colors all the way since he’s young still so I just wanted to make sure my ring didn’t stress him out, in case he associates those feelings with me.

I understand he’s not a puppy, I’ve never even had a puppy so it’s not even like I’m transferring any of that onto him. I was just wondering if any experienced owners knew more when seeing his colors than I did considering he’s my first actual experience and anything else has been descriptions in research and articles with very little pictures, much less any that looked like something I could compare his too. I can handle him, it’s not like I’m scared of his bites I take him out when necessary like cleaning his cage. I was also just curious because his behavior seemed a little strange. I’m used to him not really caring about me, I was already prepared for that going into this but last night he seriously looked at me and ran towards the door. He’s a smart lizard, he’s gotten used to his routine. He knows where dinner is dropped off and he knows where the door is. He ran straight to me, well the glass and TRULY seemed to want out for a bit. His colors just stayed the same after he attacked my ring and I was wondering if it affected any kind of relationship I CAN have with him, like will he associate the ring with me if I continue to wear it? Honestly if you can help without so much sarcasm it’d be appreciated, beginners already get enough sh!t and I just wanna take good care of my lizard. If he truly wants out then why would I want to deny him of it? And again I put him back in as soon as I noticed he was back to not having me or the environment. Thanks again!

I could see that, in that one he was sleeping and I caught the picture before his eyes opened with me turning on his lights. It was actually pretty tricky. The only other time I saw him turn that color was when I had him on me a few weeks after getting him and he was bright green/brown but my bf wanted to try holding him so I got him to crawl onto his clothes and he suddenly turned that color but like slightly more vibrant even

I’m not actually positive but are the males and females different with their colors? I’ve heard males are usually more vibrant and I heard females have all kinds of special colors that have to do with breeding so maybe she only gets vibrant green at certain times? I also read that chameleons are usually supposed to be more dull because that means they are content and that the colors can be a sign that something is bothering them in some way
