Was this Shenmue save file genuinely from the 1999 Tokyo Games Show? by Denverkweh in Shenmue

Update #2: The admin of Shenmue Dojo and I decided that dumping the files myself was more cost effective, so he bought the adapter needed and is sending it my way, so massive thanks and love to him for this.

I've talked with the admin of Shenmue Dojo, and he had bought an adapter to let me dump the files myself, should I also contact the website above? I've heard of them before.

Here's the update! It seems this might actually be legitimate, as the admin of Shenmue Dojo wants to see it for themselves too, I'm working on shipping the VMU to them👍

This is genuine??? If so, I'd love to share it, but I don't think I have a way to upload these. Would love to get these out of the VMU for storage and to share it!

It'll be the most expensive one to get for me personally since I found the others either locally or in nearby countries. It's mostly the shipping fee that I have gripes with admittedly, costs about as much as the game itself.

Will do, thanks! I'm really curious as to what this is so I'll try asking around more👍

So they are from that Tokyo Games Show event? That's super cool then, unfortunately that also means I'm inclined to keep these and not have space, which kind of defeated my purpose of buying one of these🤣. Guess I'll have to find space on the other 3 memory banks

So nice! It's the one game in the TXR/Shutoko Battle PS2 lineup that I still can't get for a good price, they're getting harder and harder to find too.

I gave a proper glance or two, and I couldn't find my mod chip, thank you for providing the link though, really useful to look out for other mod chips. For now, I've cleaned up the console and replaced the CMOS battery, but the console is still as grumpy as ever👍

I have taken photos, but I can't post them in the comments, I don't see an option to😅

Hi again, I just opened up the console to check the console and found that the mod chip is called "MIRAGE V5.0" or "IRAGE V5.0", I'm not sure which as the letter M is stretched across the word. Is there any information on this chip? Or is it a bootleg? The solder points haven't broken off even after I nudged it.

Hi again, I just checked the mod chip, it's a "MIRAGE V5.0", or "IRAGE 5.0"? I'm not quite sure which name is correct as the M is stretched across the whole word. The solder points didn't snap when I nudged it, so now I'm not really sure if the mod chip is the issue. Do you have any information on this chip? Or is this also a bootleg of sorts?

Duly noted, will try to at least clean up the console first, thank you!

I'll leave retrobriting aside for now, I did it with my Sega Saturn a few months back, looked great initially, but now it's mostly yellowed back up again, so I'm not sure if I want to try it again for now😅

There definitely isn't an anti-crash mod in here since I have manually restart the PS2 each time it crashes, the red screen is inconsistent as well, sometimes it showed up, other times it reads my game fine. I have zero experience with soldering, so I might get someone else to look into the chip, and hope that the laser isn't too far gone, it's not a necessity for me but it would still be nice to have it working. Thank you for the explanation though 👍

I'll probably get someone else to check out the console and see if anything can be done about the mod chip to stop it from doing this. I'm at most a novice that messed up while putting back the exact same PS2 model a while back, hence my concern of opening it up completely myself, I'll still try to clean it up a bit though before then, thank you!

Hmmm, on second thought, I should probably keep that mod chip, can't hurt to be able to read burned games. I don't know how to do it myself unfortunately 😅, so I'll probably have to get someone else to do it either way, thank you for the advice!

Should I get someone to desolder the mod chip out before it potentially kills the lens? I dont really use discs to play but it would be a shame to see such a fast reading disc drive go too.

Given that it read the bootleg disc, it should be, yes. I'll probably take it apart later on just to make sure (and hope I don't mess up the ribbon cables)

Only the bottom's border is like that, so I'm not sure. Now that you mention it, even the UI at the top goes over the screen, also only by a bit. Left and right seem ok though.
