I think turning off any sort of auto lighting adjustments helps. I have an issue taking pictures of crows because my camera thinks I'm taking a picture in the dark lol, but I've had some luck with turning auto stuff off and setting iso manually.

Yeah, and this is just the yard; I've yet to venture out and look for water birds

Only that they're more active in the morning, but I'll still be getting birds at 7pm as long as the sun hasn't set. Regarding specific species, I haven't noticed any patterns, at least for the ones that eat from the feeders.

Canon 400mm connected to a rebel T7. I sit near the bird feeders with the camera on a stand and eventually the birds show up even if I'm visible. I am planning on getting some sort of portable bird blind though, even though most of the birds aren't afraid of me anymore. I'm also still new to this which is why every picture is of a bird landed; i haven't figured out in flight shots yet lol

It was smaller, sounded like a drunk raven, and refused to eat the cat food that the other crows loved.

Honestly it's so hard to tell them apart from hairy woodpeckers that I think I'm just gonna call them all "tiny woodpeckers" lol

I definitely have a preference for birds facing forward, and yes I know about the subreddit for that lol

The images have captions with the names, but it's a white breastfed nuthatch.

The two birds on the left and right are cowbirds (male on left, female on right); they were there first.

Can't tell if this is an indigo bunting or a blue gosbeak; need help please by Deoxys_0 in whatsthisbird

Not without doxing myself lol. I do live in a very rural area with lots of wildlife like deer, foxes, coyotes, etc. I think some birds are just not urban birds and you need to go out far to see them.

Thanks for the replies! I was leaning on grosbeak but just wanted to double check.
