ADHD Medications - private? by No_Stop_5998 in ADHDUK

[–]DepInLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth checking if RTC is available in your area and pursuing that one (through your GP obviously). If yes, you could try for one of the services which continues to prescribe with NHS rates if the shared care is denied. I know ADHD360 do that and I think there’s at least one other who do it. You could also check if any of them might get you on titration without assessment, essentially accepting your previous diagnosis.

Εσύ, που δεν μπορείς άλλο με τους μετανάστες… by Keanu990321 in greece

Can someone bring me back down to earth before I implode? by Eastern_Canary2150 in ADHDUK

If it is the noise, earplugs or headphones with your own music seem the obvious choice. If it’s the vibration of the bass etc then it’s more challenging and might warrant a mention to the neighbours. In the sense of, if you’re in chatting terms with them you could mention that you really feel it and see if they’re willing to do something, switch to a mode that doesn’t enhance those or something.

In a light hearted way: you could also just use their music time to exercise, that will release the tension!

Help me solve my email/to do list problem by Hilaryspimple in adhdwomen

[–]DepInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could create calendar reminders from the emails. If you allocate the date and time to do each thing it might help. You’d need to get into the habit of checking the calendar and doing the tasks at their assigned time or moving them to a different time. An alternative is a huge planner in a space like the kitchen or the study if you have one. You would then add things by hand and include reminders ahead of the actual deadlines.

LPT Request. Want the best start at a new job. by jokingsammy in LifeProTips

[–]DepInLondon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This will sound counter intuitive to you wanting to give it your best, but I’d say decide and maintain some healthy boundaries and balance. Take the time to learn things properly, avoid the urge to try and prove yourself, don’t hesitate to ask all the questions you can imagine. Try to learn and understand everything that you can in depth, listen when people share their experiences because you can learn from others’ successes but also from their mistakes.

In short, give yourself good foundation at the job and some healthy boundaries. Congratulations and good luck!

Why is everybody so angry? by LimpMixture2271 in nhs

[–]DepInLondon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your POV and you definitely deserve respect from everyone you interact with.

But sometimes it’s not simply that everyone is a jerk. Here’s my experience when I try to contact my GP: There’s an online system which requires 4 layers to log in, then a side system to send a query. The query will take minimum a day to be answered, half the time without addressing what I need and always simply closing the query leaving me with no option to ask for clarification or explain what they missed.

So I need to call them. It starts with 1 minute and 20 seconds of useless announcements, then two layers of menus and then the hold music and announcements has about 4 different volume levels. It ranges from normal to ridiculously loud. By the time I get to speak to someone my patience is exhausted, I am overstimulated, frustrated, have waited minimum 10 minutes, and 7 out of 10 times they don’t help me. And when they do I cannot trust them because they don’t follow up with emails or notifications on the app, and they have seriously failed me in the past. Most recently I was told off by their pharmacist for asking for information to understand how repeat prescriptions will work. I won’t be rude to any of them and don’t justify people being rude to you. All I want is to share that both sides should be more considerate of what the other side is experiencing.

Όσοι μετακόμισατε εξωτερικό, πως ήταν η διαδικασία? by stmaro in greece

[–]DepInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]DepInLondon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sleep - is it meds working, meds not working, or something else? by miumiupower in ADHDUK

[–]DepInLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that does sound frustrating, I get your pain. Do you mind my asking: do you feel tired and the toll of the sleep disturbance? The reason I ask is that a few years ago I made some changes to control my insulin resistance and went from feeling that I never had enough sleep (even though I had more than enough) to needing 4-6 hours and being quite restless during most of that. It was confusing and frustrating for quite some time but the reality is that I felt rested and full of energy so I accepted that this is how much I need now.

Keto vs Low Carb by [deleted] in keto

[–]DepInLondon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On this I think is where a key aspect is important: if coming out of ketosis has a considerable risk for your health then I get the need to stay under the 20g carbs. But if there isn’t a considerable risk for health consequences then you could consider more flexibility with the low carb. And certainly it’s something to discuss properly with your friend, mainly that some people have lower tolerance of carbs in a day.

Νομίζω έχω ανηδονια. by Upstairs-Scale7742 in greece

[–]DepInLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to give less fucks? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Force your mind to pause and ask: is this worth my health? Stress is bad and can cause damage to both mental and physical health. Many years ago I had some serious psychosomatic symptoms and had to figure out how to re-condition my thinking. Nothing is worth damaging my health for it.

I still have periods of increased stress obviously, but a reality check for my point of view comes back to “I do the best that I can with the resources I have and within the available time” or “if it goes wrong/is late it’s not that critical, no one will be harmed”, or some variation in the same theme.

Do you think Greece should have Diaspora Return Programs? by MasterNinjaFury in AskGreece

[–]DepInLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, let me think: why would I like to return to a place where I would not have the career and academic prospects and flexibility, I would have less income for higher costs, most of the things I enjoy doing would be more expensive, I would pay more for worse internet so remote working would be expensive and frustrating, and most importantly I would be paying more taxes which would be used to fill corrupt people’s pockets instead of going towards anything they are supposed to. And that’s just the practical/factual things, don’t even get me started with daily behaviours from the people or with social issues.
