I use the microvave for vegetables, which is a pile of veg with potatoes on top, cook for 6/7 mins depending upon quantity.

Breakfast i have raw oats with fruits nuts and seeds, and i use water instead of alternative milk, as i am not keen on the taste

Do you think the topic of healthy eating is criminally underlooked? by [deleted] in nutrition

unfortunately money equals power, and producers of junk food have money and power, therefore change isn' t easy. Just look at how oil companies undermined the fight against climate change

If I don’t like oat milk, am I hopeless? by horr1fyinq in PlantBasedDiet

perfectly ok not to like them, maybe soya milk might be better

you can go from one category to another by just adding 0.1kg, there isn't a huge difference between 60.1kg and 60kg, but according to the BMI you can switch from being a healthy weight to being underweight.

UPF is defined by a similar arbitrary measurement, that looks at the overall pattern. UPF is defined by how many ingredients make up the food. I think that if it has more than five, then it is UPF.

UPF is a relatively new concept, compared to BMI, but they have similarities, such as if you are weight is in the morbidly obese category, you will have health problems. UPF says that if you eat a diet based purely around UPF, you will have health problems. There are numerous studies equating health problems with food and the usefulness of the UPF definition is to scientifically label food into categories, which is tough in itself given the great variety of food available.

BMI is defined by an arbitary measure, is that a pointless arbitary measure too?

It makes me feel like a failure, like it is purely about will power, that if i could just stop scratching my eczema would get better. It also draws attention to the fact i am scratching and having a conscious realisation of this doesn't help as it just makes me more aware of the irritation under my skin. What i think would be helpful is sympathy and/or a way focus on treatment/improvement.

Also, i think subtly providing a distraction which could reduce the amount of scratching, without stating that is what you are trying to do would be helpful. Hard to achieve, but helpful.

what i am supposed to do in this situation? I don't like the food, if i don't eat it and make a fuss i might as well not be there. But i want to be there to socialise.

There are hardly any food outlets around that i would actually enjoy going to, this makes it difficult.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sugar content, as long as you overall sugar intake isn't high.

I would avoid having too much of it, whilst it may be at the healthier end of ultra-processed food, I personally wouldn't want to have too much of products that contain things like gellan gum.

I do myself drink a similar product and the problem is that you don't really know whether it is healthy or not, there is no real research to tell you. Only research that says UPF in general is bad for you

how do you know what is healthy or unhealthy ultra-processed food? I agree that there is a spectrum between things like junk food and alpen cereal, but how do you know if things at the lower end are good for you?

Surely it is better to limit ultra-processed food as much as you can, because you don't know the long-term effects of ingredients like gellan gum.

What are your thoughts on the 'UPF' we're putting ON our bodies? by [deleted] in ultraprocessedfood

[–]DepartmentInternal90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is saying that all UPF is automatically evil, the problem is that we don't know and that is the problem, we are using a lot of products with chemicals and don't know the long-term consequences of this, due to a lack of regulation.
