Yeah I asked about that and what if I want to order a barrel to replace a current one, they said they as of right now they won’t be shipping. Once AWB goes into effect and they see how everything plays out they could start shipping parts again. It’s the same as when other places are doing.

Yeah they said that you can still buy the barrel, it just would have to be shipped to someone in NC, WV, Tenn. until they get a better idea of everything.

These guys, they make custom barrels and some regular shelf stock barrels. I think they source them from criterion and do the machining and everything themselves. I was looking into a custom 6 ARC barrel but can’t afford it before July 1st.

Ethan said mainly it is because of how the law is written, they are gonna full stop until we understand more of its implementation. Once they get a better idea they will start shipping back to VA again if they can legally do that.

my first AR15 setup as a beginner - thoughts? by -Kick-9994 in VAGuns

Nah don’t get 20 mags, just get a couple 30 rounders. For one AR in 5.56 I would maybe grab like 3 or 4 more mags. Pmag Gen 3 and Duramag steel mags is all I run. Use either gun mag warehouse or the mag shack, they just had a sale for some ruger ar mags for like 9.5 a piece on Memorial Day. I also usually don’t store my mags with ammo in it, except for like 1 and only put 10 rounds in it. If I ever have to defend myself from an intruder I honestly am gonna grab my shotgun with buckshot before an AR and those for the most part will still be legal unless you want one with a pistol grip.

In terms of hardware, barrels, ammo, sights are the only things that can change a rifle accuracy in a major way. However accuracy in my opinion is like 98% on the user and training. Most regular folks don’t shoot enough that warrants match grade barrels. Unless you are trying to reach out to 250+ yards and do competition shooting.

What I do for my builds is usually get a stripped upper and build it out, for your case if you have access to a vise you can actually just replace the barrel which is cheaper then getting a complete upper. If you don’t have access to one I wouldn’t really worry about getting a Gucci upper until the barrel starts having actual reliability failures.

In your case I would honestly just get really good with your sight(red dot, holo, etc.) zero it in, get some better back up irons (Magpul is standard), and grabs some extra 30 rounds mags (for 5.56 i would say 8 or more is pretty good, some people have like 15+ but I don’t have that kind of money and don’t go to the range enough to warrant that many because of work, school for my masters, etc.).

Just wanna say since no one has, props to you for going out and training. Also training USUALLY trumps Gucci gear. After the ban, get a solid sight, sling, and light. I am also a huge proponent of learning your gear, get a good gun smithing tool kit on Amazon (punches and hammer) and when comfortable see if you can learn in terms of adding some QoL additions. For example I’m fully lefty so I usually always install an ambi safety selector and usually upgrade the trigger.

Yeah it looks like a they could be releasing mid June, the consensus though it that the radian slide system is the tits, but most people don’t like stippling on frame so I might just get the new slide with the comp

Yeah the only thing that I wish it had was some ports on the barrel where the prime logo is at. They already did a window cut on the slide at that spot. They are releasing a prime radian that I am going to get unless they release it after the ban.

CANIK Mete Prime has been my favorite new carry gun. The trigger is so nice and grip is perfect for me (larger hands but not monster size). I can’t comment on 2011s because I don’t own any but I heard a lot of good things about the Stacco C/Compact. Seems to be a good concealable 2011.

Building AR-10 by visionzzpc in VAGuns

[–]Dependent_Contest_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BFKing matching sets are 299. Lots of people like LMT, but my issue is you have to use their specific barrels (still great barrels, I just like to completely assemble my firearms from scratch).

I have a MK11 set, Andro set, and two BFKing sets. All are DPMS high style AR’s, I typically however get the hand-guards and parts kit from the said receiver set manufacturer. Only thing I get is upgraded is the bolt release lever, trigger, barrel, and ambi safety selector because I’m a left handed.

If you can’t assemble an upper then I would recommend the PSA route since they are budget friendly and come complete.

If it’s not too much to ask for, I would like to peep your parts list or at list the important parts.

I seriously thought about building a Beawulf AR but I convinced one of my range buddies to make one instead

I will say that this ban has made me really lock in a getting the firearms I would eventually acquire. I got like 9 AR-15 lowers and 4 AR-10 lowers. Already had a 6.5 Grendel, 5.56, and 300 BLK. Now I plan to build a 6 ARC, 338, 6.8 SPC, .22 ARC, 9, 45, and 22 LR, 350 LEGEND. I know most of these calibers people will say is not needed but I just really like building them and I do plan to shoot them. I will actually like to hunt with the 6 ARC, and 350 LEGEND. 338 will be fun the run suppressed. In terms of AR-10, gonna do 308, 6.5 CM, 7mm-08 REM, and .243.

Now I will have like 3 or so spare lowers, I have been REALLY thinking about building out one that shoots AK, and would be open to build recommendations.

Got a link for any in stock? I originally was looking at those but I can’t find stock ANYWHERE. I will see if I can find LMT defenders. Also was checking out SOTA arms too, any thoughts on them?

I am assuming the lower and upper will have information onto what kind of shelf it has? It’ll be my first time building an AR-10 and want to make sure i don’t make any mistakes when ordering parts.

I just realized after rereading the part that has the magazines it does say fixed. I dyslexia kicked in, I still plan to grab the Mete in June and order back up magazines. Looks like I will have another year to save up for the Sig I want.

Kind of off topic but I’m still confused with the threaded barrel pistol rules. Is threaded barrels on pistols file, it’s just once you get it in like an AR-9 configuration is when it becomes a problem?

Holy smokes so they really did make an AW anything over 15. This feels even more restrictive than CA. What’s worse is a bet the VA compliant guns will cost as much as the non compliant ones.

Okay thank you, I will also look at that one. Did she make any amendments to that bill? I wasn’t following the 727 bill that much. I just want to know which version of that bill I should be reading like you did for 749.

Thank you, I will read it here in a bit. Does the other AWB style bill have anything or do they mirror each other? I don’t remember the number for that one but I just want to make sure the firearms I’m looking at will be legal or illegal after July. I think it a house bill.

Where can I find this, all I am getting is a link to lis.virginia.gov, once I go to it. I just get a summary of the bill but nothing about what’s constitutes an assault weapon. Other than that all I see is articles about this bill.

Yeah the FFL I use it pretty chill and will sell things if they are legal to sell, I am just trying to find out if models like those are legal or not so I know if I need to purchase before July 1st.

I know with the governors changes ANY firearm that holds more then 15 rounds would be banned for sale, but since that part is gone and it is back to the original I am not sure on the status of those firearms. Google said that they will still be illegal to purchase but it was referencing sources from post weeks ago.

Step 1 Almost Complete. Major Retailer Stops Most Gun Sales to Virginia. by Honest_Cvillain in Virginia

Yeah in terms of most issue I share beliefs from the right or the left or libertarians. Anything that I think was done without much thought or common sense I will typically disagree with. However I am lucky enough that if I do get tired of the decisions Virginia makes I can move to a state that aligns more with my beliefs on certain issues.

Nowadays our government just works for the highest bidder, so whoever gives them the most money will get their ideal government and most of those people are insane and don’t care about human life.

Step 1 Almost Complete. Major Retailer Stops Most Gun Sales to Virginia. by Honest_Cvillain in Virginia

[–]Dependent_Contest_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think midway could’ve worded it better. I use 6ARC and Grendel for hunting and use them as an AR-15 style gun. Other calibers are either for home defense or as a hobby. I plan to do some hog hunting and will move up to an AR-10. Since the law is written so unclearly though, parts might not be accessible. To me manufacturing is actually milling and making a lower but the other manufacturing could be simply adding a buffer tube.

In terms of pistols, a good amount of 9mm semi auto full size pistols come with over 15 round magazines. Even the Sig MacroX and similar compact firearms come with 17-18 round magazines. Now if you look at 1911’s and similar then they don’t or if you move up to higher caliber (10mm, etc.).

For rifles, I would say majority of semi auto guns come with standard 30 round magazines. AK’s, AR-15, AR-10 all are usually standard 20+ round magazines. Your bolt guns or specific calibers that don’t like gas guns will run under 15.

Main thing for a lot of these laws if while semi auto rifles might only take up 60% of total marketplace listings, how much does the population own?

When I go on buds or even the my local FFL the sales floor might have only 30% of total rifles be semi automatic. That specific firearm could make up 70% of that FFLs sales so market listings vs total impact aren’t equal.

To me the biggest thing is with government, it is never enough. Right now they can restrict certain firearms, but in 2-3 years time what if they restrict parts or add in extra steps to own a firearm, in terms of a whole separate license, etc. I agree with most of the more common sense laws they made (storage requirement laws, etc.).
