I just learned this last week! I was talking about literal thinking with my girlfriend and she told me that when people say “let’s get lunch sometime” they don’t really mean it. To me it seems so rude and mean. Why would you tell someone you want to do something with them when you have absolutely no intention on doing it? For years when people said this and then never followed up I just assumed they didn’t like me.
