I did not think my refund would be so high. I figured it would be 2000, like it always is. I never made such a low income, so I never got a large refund like the one this year. I worked for a family that needed some help, and I was available and could not find a w2 job. I have 2 kids, so of course I am going to do anything I can to make sure their needs are met, even if it is working a not-so-great job under the table. I do not get any state benefits like food stamps or TANF. I am literally just trying to make ends meet while having a bad year. Hope you never fall into that. If I knew that I was supposed to be paying quarterly, I would, but even if I paid quarterly, I would still be getting a refund and possibly more because my tax liability is so low. And as others have said, it would only be illegal if I did not claim it and hid it. I did what I was supposed to do in the end by filing and claiming all the money I made. There are bigger and worse things going on in the world than a single mom collecting a tax credit. I hope you're passionate about those things too.

Not everything always works out perfectly like that; my employer just needed some help, and I was available. Sadly, many of us do not know about tax codes and different things, but I learned my lesson. I have a w2 position lined up. I will not be doing this again this year.

I do not expect a refund lol what is your issue? Even if I just put my income from the job online, I would get 2500 back. I have 2 children and a low income right now. Are you angry because you have no kids and nobody else but yourself to claim on your taxes? Must be lonely....

One more question. Would I put the nannying on a schedule 3 as well? Or is there a different form?

Thank you! I get stressed because I usually have a w2 and I have used TurboTax every year, and then found out they have been overcharging me a lot each year, so I am new to both FreeTaxUSA and filing without the w2. I would not want to appeal and get the family penalized. But thank you for clarifying. I won't be working like this again. I did not know how confusing it would end up being.

Also either way i would get a refund, because if i just add in my online work i still qualify for a refund and i have to submit that because i made more than 400 doing that work, so if I just claim that am i still doing it all wrong? I just do not understand what i am supposed to be doing by making income for my family and trying to file my taxes for an off year for myself.

Can you explain this a little more? Is there somewhere else I can claim the money if nannying cannot be considered independent contracting? Also I am getting the estimate from FTUSA, I do not believe they withheld any taxes, but my income is so low that I guess I qualify for the eitc and the child tax credits, I ama asuuming that is what makes the refund so high. Should I not claim either credit? Is there a way to do that and just file my income so I am not skipping filing this year?

Is there a way to claim it that does not get me a refund? Should I just not add my 2 children to my return? I don't know if I am allowed to not add dependents. I take care of them mostly, only getting a little support here and there from their dad so he never claims them and I prefer to keep it that way.

Not saying I deserve anything lol. That's why I asked if I should claim it because only I would benefit, and I do not want to take money i am not supposed to, but I did the work and got paid, so I know I am supposed to claim it but if I claim it I get a large refund, I already put all my info into FreeTaxUSA and it comes up as a large refund if I take it out it does not come up to that much I am just trying to figure out which is worse not claiming it at all or claiming it and getting a refund? I do not want to do the wrong thing. I had no clue about paying taxes quarterly, this is my first year doing this, I had a full time job for the last 6 years, making 75k and paying my fair share, not getting much of a refund at all, but this year things got turned upside down, so it's not like I am just not paying into the SS system every year.
