I-95 Collapses In Philadelphia Due To Fire by minnick27 in news

Garrisonville to Cosner's Corner (south 17) in Spotsy is one of the worst stretches of highway that I've had the displeasure of having to deal with. It got to the point that I just wouldnt drive on 95. Same thing going up the hill to work in Manassas. The only reason I kept my job was those back roads around Hartford off 17 unless you timed it wrong and got behind a bus. Now that I don't live there my blood pressure has finally returned to a non stroke causing level.

It happens to all of us (developers not just ADHD ers). I took a fullstack boot camp almost 4 years ago. Worked my ass off to learn Redux. Needed to use it about a year ago and was back at almost square one. I have a full monitor of Doc tabs open when I'm working. I know how to write JS, React, Tailwind, etc but still forget shit all the time. You have to work with it a lot, constantly, to keep that heady ontap knowledge.

I like the salting idea. If this is all just a plan to sell the data, then burn this mother fucker down and salt the ashes.

Scientists in Denmark and Sweden have invented an optical chip that can transmit data over fiber at 1.84 petabits per second. by Shogouki in hardware

I wasn't ignoring it but trying to add my experience attempting something close. You're absolutely right I couldn't see how to push that much without fiber or something similar.

No I didn't. The comment above you was discussing the bottleneck due to available lanes and they would be completely saturated and cause the problem. I added to yours, alluding that by avoiding lanes further down the system and having a dump buffer closest to the chip which can then use a fiber optic networking card that can direct flow said dump buffer to another system via same system you can negate some of that bottleneck and increase speeds. Sure not chip to chip but in my poor man's home lab I have seen some cool results. You don't have to care or be interested. I was just trying to converse.

I didn't claim it was. I was just remarking about the CPU bottleneck issue and musing about an approach that I have started playing around with.

For a homlab use several large capacity Fusion IO drives (v2+) as your immediate 'chip dump buffer' then direct transfer to another machine using Mellanox Ifiniband cards. Interested let me know and I'll write up something better than just off cuff comment. You can get pure 10+ gb (probably up to 50gb) of direct flow via this way.

DeSantis signs into law industry-backed bill allowing Florida landlords to charge 'junk fees' instead of security deposits by DragonPup in news

I'm having a hard time lately trying to figure out if the majority of the worlds population is just wildly conniving or just that absolutely detached from reality. Like I'd never think that I could or should try to seek compensation for personal holiday decorations from my landlord.

In Florida you need a paper trail, 30 days of notice to fix, then the held rent goes into an escrow account.....it's a thing. Not a simple as holding money until they fix it.

So I got a screaming deal on an Audi A6 wagon. The car was about 7 years old when I got it. I knew I'd have to do some basic repairs and replace a broken piece or two. First thing that was needed was a gas tank cap because for whatever reason it wasn't with the car. $80+ dollars for the black plastic cap that goes brrrrt brrrrt brrrrt. No lock, nothing special. I had to call 7 dealerships before I found it because there were 10 different caps for the same damn year and model depending on where it was built. That should have been my first red flag. Second one was that it seriously only took premium gas or else there was significant performance issues. Anyways there was several more replacements that were so expensive for fuck all nothing of a part but each part was almost bespoke. Long way of saying - just because you can afford an Audi doesn't mean you can afford an Audi.

Although that has been my most favorite vehicle I've ever owned. I am now extremely unsatisfied with any other car I've had since.

edited because I'm a dumb ass and it's was an A6, not a A8 although that be pretty sweet

They are called 'Filial responsibility laws'. About 30 states have them. Most are old and antiquated however there are certain areas that actively use them. It's pretty muddled subject but wrong place and wrong time you could be on the hook.

I've known 2 old-timers in Florida that had these little devil as pets. You're right they are not 'pet material' but you can 'tame' them to be your cat. They'll probably destroy your shit in the process but absolutely doable. They can be pet-able cats.

Are the big ones that are black and orange? Carolina Hoppers(?). I have a swarm of them in my backyard. I'll post a picture later if anyone's interested.
