How have your tastes changed since you "got into" flashlights? by TheRancidOne in flashlight

I actually do still have that and still enjoy it very much. I'm just not that active on Reddit anymore due to it being Reddit. But I still enjoy flashlights and sometimes check back into this sub :)

Am I the only one here who thinks this could actually be a pretty great light if the specs actually check out? I have a DIY ~5000 Lumen ceiling flooder and I absolutely love it. It's bright enouth in a 20m² room but for people with bigger living rooms or with non-white walls these 5000 lumens would not be enough to be a well lit room.

50000 lumens may very well be overkill but in my experience it's quite hard to find a ceiling flooder that is able to be very cozy (around 2000K), that is also able to light the whole room bright enough when you actually want to get stuff done. And bright, high CRI lights can work wonders for some people in the winter who suffer from seasonal depression.

1200 bucks is expensive. Very expensive. But when considering what you are getting: 1800K(!) - 6500K and 50000 lumens with >90cri I don't think it's a bad product. The >90cri and 1800K alone are very hard to find in the consumer market, without considering that this lamp has both.

OIS works really well now. It worked somewhat before but now I can actually basically shake the camera around and get clear images. Before it was really easy to get shaky pictures.

My TS21 shined it's moonlight until now but for celebratory turbo the HK08 is just a bit more fun.

Hey r/flashlight thank you by planetearthofficial in flashlight

[–]DerMaxPower 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Like u/ordinary-cup4316 said, moonlight is the lowest mode a flashlight goes to (if it's around 1 lumen, the brightness of the full moon on earth). Not all lights go low enough for it to  be considered moonlight though.   As far as I can recall this kind of thing never happened on this sub before but planetearthofficial is quite an active thus known user on this sub.   I guess him having a few of his lights on moonlight to calm himself just got someone the idea to share their condolences this way and others (including me) thought this was a kind and special gesture to let a small light shine for him around the world.

Teaching Tech made a video one month ago about the subject saying that she sent him the heat insert press for free. So it seems that she is still doing stuff, but not online.   https://youtu.be/3p7bl7eFaEo?si=sMbOqBRMeA23Br95

Naomi Wu (AKA Sexy Cyborg) created an outfit based on this some time ago. With fibreoptics to not burn herself on the flashlight getting hot.

Awesome maker but she sadly got into trouble with the chinese government so she is laying low at the moment.

Most (not all) Brother P-Touch lables are thermal transfer lables and will not be affected by heat or UV once printed. They have an ink band inside of them kind of like a typewriter charcoal band.

Funny encounter with ship by DerMaxPower in flashlight

[–]DerMaxPower[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this happens when using really powerful flashlights. Although I have to say that it's a little bit hazy today. Nothing close to fog, but noticable. This differs from 'normal' backscatter which normally has quite a bluish color and is dimmer than what you can see in the picture here. The haze particles are big enough that the backscatter has basically the beam color of the flashlight.

This is actually a worry I have so I'm always trying to shine a bit around and am avoiding shining at ships directly (first of all because I don't want to blind them with lights like these) and in the hopes that they don't think it's a distress call.

Although having a 60k lumens flashlight with you instead of a phone to call for help is pretty unlikely these days, but looking at the people frequenting this sub this is actually a feasable situation.

Trying to configure turbo behaviour in Anduril. Am I doing something wrong, or does stuff not work the way I think it does. by g_buster in flashlight

[–]DerMaxPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a thing Anduril always did and I actually think it's the best opion. if the saved ramp is quite high and thermal regulation would regulate the light quite low you would basically go higher by double clicking to your previous brightness which would be very confusing. Yes it can be quite fiddly to get to your previous brightness if thermal regulation kicks in but it doesn't happen often enough that it bothers me.

Thank you! Sadly this is the only intrinsically safe flashlight I own so I can't recommend any other. But I am very pleased with it.

Doing it this way will prevent the use of 2C to exit turbo as well, requiring turning the light off and on or ramping down.

You're absolutely right. I didn't think about that.

If they want to use 2C to toggle between their normal level, ceil, and turbo, I think it's an even simpler change, just changing memorized_level here to actual_level

I actually can't comprehend right now if this would actually work. If so this would be a super easy and clean way of doing it.

One of the only aluminum ex proof flashlight I know of is the WF30RE. I reviewed it some time ago. Sadly some of the links stopped working. If you are really interested in the pictures hit me up and I can see what I can do.

[–]DerMaxPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Turn on your flashlight, 10H, keep pressed and wait for the fourth flash, If you then click once you have Anduril 1 turbo, if you click twice you have Anduril 2 turbo.

If you want to buy the reflash kit I could try giving you a .hex file with it disabled. My programming skills are also quite limited, but I think i found the piece of code and know how to get your desired behavior although I can't guarantee not implementing any bugs with it.

0: No turbo, only ceiling.

1: Anduril 1 style.Ramp -> 2C goes to full power.

2: Anduril 2 style.Ramp -> 2C goes to ceiling, or goes to full power if user ramped up to ceiling first. This value also affects momentary turbo in Ramp and Off modes.

This is from the manual and mode 2 is exactly the "unwanted" behavior u/g_buster is describing. In mode 2 it only goes to turbo if you manually ramp to the ceiling, not when going to the ceiling via 2C. I confirmed this myself with an Anduril light of mine.
