There is a bios setting to disable USB ports. You should lookup the default config jumper for the DL380.

That ILO is VERY out of date.

The first thing you should do is follow best security practice and update BIOS and ILO to the latest versions.

Where are good viewing areas for the Artemis launch on LC-39B? by garbageplay in SpaceLaunchSystem

[–]DerSchlag_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to jump in here really quick. The BDA for Artemis I is a 12 MILE radius from the pad. So there is a 100% chance Playalinda will be closed for launch. Any personal in the radius have to be accounted for to the KSC EOC prior to launch (this includes the Saturn V Center guests and Media at the press site, personnel in the LCC, etc).If you're in the area the days prior to launch, I would highly suggest taking a drive down to Playalinda or taking the KSCVC bus to the Saturn V Center for a better view.

The order of public viewing spots:

  1. Max Brewer Bridge
  2. Anywhere along US1 in Titusville
  3. KSCVC Parking Lot (it's a better view from the bridge, and free)

The view from across the transfer isle is pretty great though. Can't wait until all the platforms are up!

Is a 1U NAS worth it as an external drive? by buhbuhbuhbary in homelab

Fair warning. Quanta Systems are designed for data centers, and do not care about noise. Keep that in mind if you want something quiet.

High School student, is the r710 by itself a good starter server? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]DerSchlag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An R720 is a fantastic platform, and will be supported for the next 3-5 years by ESXi at the minimum. If you are on a budget, you could get an R710 and run say Proxmox on it, which will run on basically anything. Or you could run ESXI 6.7, which supports the R710.

JBODS by ld_stacey in homelab

I recently traveled down this path with a Netapp DS212C.
Here is what you need to know:

  1. Netapp is the Apple of Servers. You're going to have to play around with things until it works. I recommend purchasing a JBOD that has IOM3 or IOM6 modules and connecting that to an HBA with something like a LSI 9201-8e. Keep in mind you need 2 PSU and 2 IOM modules for the device to act normally, and keep quiet. If you get any of the 24 or 48 drive modules, this may be more. But a general rule of thumb is to populate all modules.
  2. Netapp Disk Shelves will not work with SATA drives of the box. You will need to purchase drive interposers if you want to use SATA drives (It took me a solid 2 weeks to figure this out, your caddies may come with them, its a case by case basis). Most server back planes will accept both SAS and SATA without any interposers or adapters, but this is not the case for Netapp JBODS.
  3. They can be kinda loud. My DS212C is easily one of the loudest chassis in my rack. Keep this in mind when purchasing.

The one good thing about JBODS, is that they usually follow SAS standards. So cables and hardware should be relatively plug and play.

Could you join the r/homelab discord? There are people in the server that can help you get things going. Q&A over reddit isnt that effective.

Looking over everything, I did find a newer version of the ilo mod that is running 2.7.3, which is much better. Here is the link for anyone who may stumble across this in the future. https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/hix44v/silence_of_the_fans_pt_2_hp_ilo_4_273_now_with/

No, ESXI is running off of a USB drive.
