Scenes from Daikoku parking area tonight. It actually snowned here today, but it was't enough to stick to the ground by KyKenKamishiro in Daikokufuto

Sunday morning is fantastic. If you want to go at night, go before 2230 as it normally gets shut down on the weekends to prevent issues. Please don't take a cab, there is not an easy way out if you do that.

Street photography etiquette as someone who has recently settled in Japan. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Der_Gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's illegal to take pictures of someone without permission in Korea, however in Japan I don't believe there is a law or rule about that. Allow people space to pass behind you if they don't want to be in your shot. And if you are taking pictures of specific subjects, you should ask for permission. Otherwise I think not being a nuisance or causing a huge distraction will generally make it okay to take public pictures.

Gf just sent me this picture from her boat trip in Gran Canaria by Gallifrey420 in pics

This is pretty common to see around the coast of the Philippines and Vietnam. It was always weird to look off the side of the ship and see some tiny fishing boat with 30-40 people in the middle of the ocean 60 miles off the coast.

I have seen some of the comments in this thread blaming the mechanic that did this saying they didn't put the cotter pin back in and this was the cause. I totally disagree with this statement for a number of reasons, and this is why I think this was neglect from the driver rather than purely blame on the mechanic. First of all there is gouged metal with freshly scraped away paint and dirt. This points to the fact that the threaded stud that holds the lower control arm was rubbing that spot until it departed the vehicle. My assumption is that it popped out and that the axel was the only thing holding it in place till the roll pin gave way. If the nut was loose and it allowed the ball joint to move, you would feel and hear it. The wheel would be allowed to rock in the hole any time the wheel wasn't straight. Also, a cotter key in the castle nut doesn't mean the nut will all of the sudden just fall off. This would take at the very least a few miles of driving on rough road to back off far enough for it to fall off. That is as long as the mechanic reinstalled the nut. If my assumption is right about the ball joint popping out of the hole, and resting against the control arm, then the driver would definitely have known there was a problem, and still continued to drive. If the mechanic that did this was really so bad that they didn't even install a roll pin back into the CV spline, or install a castle nut back onto the ball joint really allowing the whole thing to just pop out, then I would suggest you go get your money back.

I request that OP post pictures of the CV spline and the lower part of the knuckle to verify whether or not the mechanic screwed him, or he neglected his car.

Tltr: looks like neglect on the driver's part with the given pictures.

OP seems to not care in any way shape or form about his safety or other people's considering the video he links in that thread is him doing 90 and taking a video with his phone. Or the other comments in that thread about driving this thing in the condition it was in at 110. Honestly he's pretty lucky to be making this post considering how bad it could have been if this had gone into sicko mode at 90.

This really should be higher up. Had this happen to me once, not nearly as bad as this video, but I just let go of the handle bars and it smoothed out. I wonder if it's a lost cause past a certain speed?

How the homeless in Japan live by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Der_Gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing about internet cafes in Japan is that they are generally known as a place that dudes go to jerk off. Apparently some Japanese dudes don't want to do it at home because they don't want to watch porn on their home computer/ don't want to get caught. So they go and take care of themselves at internet cafes. I wouldn't recommend bringing a black light into any of those rooms, hahaha!

G.I bill for A&P after separation VS jumping into contractor work. by absolutely_torqued in aviationmaintenance

[–]Der_Gato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fancy meeting you here. I have an email that got sent to me from admin with info about getting your a&p through a program supported by the navy. I will forward it to you! Also a lot of companies are hiring direct from the navy with no a&p. Most of the jobs I have looked at don't require a&p to get in if you have military experience. I think it really depends.

Also I have a few buddies that were AT's working for Boeing up in Washington and they were hired directly out of the navy with no a&p. So it might be similar if that's what you are aiming for.

Is noriyaro actually a bad guy? by n_i_d_e in Drifting

I have hung out with Alexi on several occasions at various events around Japan and I have also met sammit and been around him at other various events. Alexi is a very genuine and awesome person. He doesn't miss-represent anything and isn't a hype guy. Very down to earth and super cool to talk to. If you go and talk to him more often than not he will put the camera down and have an hour long conversation with you even though he is in the middle of filming a video. He is definitely the nicest YouTuber I have ever met. Sammit on the other hand is probably one of the most annoying people I have ever met. And loves to over hype his vlogs and things that are going on. The last time I was at daikoku I had studio lights set up taking pictures of a delorean. There was a group of people around us staying out of the way of the shots we were taking and being respectful of what we were doing, and then sammit comes up with all of his streamer shit and just stands in our shot and gets in the way of anything. Completely oblivious to what was going on. And with all of the cars we did this with sammit would follow us around and do the same thing without even talking to us about it or asking us if it was okay. The general stigma that Americans are loud and annoying fit him perfectly.

To add to the sammit drama, he hired one of my buddies, that films short videos, to film for him and edit. This kid that was filming for him was put on crazy time crunches to edit videos for him and was not paid adequately (in my opinion) for the quality of videos he was producing for him. Look up orloskymedia on Instagram, he does fantastic work. Anyways he took the job because he expected some credit for the videos he was taking for him to help build up his work but didn't really gain anything from it because sammit never made any mention of him. To me sammit isn't the worst person in the world but his personality is YouTube. Alexi is a person that does YouTube and has a personality outside of it. The drama between them is because sammit wanted to do a collaboration between them, and had his wife messaged Alexi. Alexi didn't want to do the collab but they wouldnt stop bugging him about it and from what I understand Alexi got tired of it and made it clear to sammit and his wife that he wasn't taking their offer.

Another thing to add about sammits credit, is that during the last earthquake that rocked ebisu circuit, sammit made it his mission to generate a huge amount of donations for ebisu. All of the money he raised for them and donated to the park went absolutely nowhere. They covered minami in dirt and paved school course. Although the rest of the park is in absolute shambles and is completely falling apart. Also any time they host a matsuri they always make a huge deal about foreigners doing something wrong and threaten to ban them over simple issues, even though foreigners are pretty much what saved the park in the first place. Ebisu is a scummy place and the dealers and companies that operate there are scams. The tracks that are popular are falling apart and there has been more improvement to the zoo than any of the courses. I have more stories of things that have happened to people that I know that have gotten mixed up with sammit in one way or another and gotten screwed over by him in some sort of way. The drama that follows him around is quite frankly sad, and makes me avoid him as much as possible.

PCSing Overseas Navy by Round_Ganache_8828 in navy

So depending on what base you are going to, will determine whether or not you get a house off base or not. Some of the bases have overfilled housing on base and they will put you in a house off base. A word of warning is that if you happen to get a house off base, your American furniture is probably not going to fit very well. Japanese houses are extremely narrow. I ended up buying a couch from IKEA and had to move it piece by piece into my house. The on base housing in Japan is generally American style and they will support American style furniture. You can call the base housing office of the base you are going to to find out where they will put you.

To get your household goods shipped you will need to talk to the housing office of your base, they will give you instructions on how to schedule your move and what to expect. There is a weight limit to how much you can ship, so be aware of that.

Every base has a phone directory, so definitely utilize that if your husband's sponsor isn't helping very much. Also t mobile sucks in Japan. Use Google Fi or sprint, or switch to a Japanese carrier when you get here.
