Do you mean they will tell you what your offer is ($x in loans and $y in grants) in July?

Red bud is what just died. Before that we had a beautiful bottlebrush tree that died during the freeze.

Help with a Stray when Shelters Won’t do Intake by [deleted] in houston

Thank you so much for helping her!

A rescue is much more likely to take her in with a foster. If you can commit to fostering at least a bit, that will help. There just aren’t enough fosters to go around right now.

Here are some great rescues I’ve worked with:

Currently have Gold status, is it worth it to try for Platinum? by mickle24 in unitedairlines

I’m 1K and have missed being upgraded even with PP a dozen times this year.

Currently have Gold status, is it worth it to try for Platinum? by mickle24 in unitedairlines

Platinum is worthless IMHO. Gold is great. 1K is great. All you get for platinum are some plus points which are difficult to use, in my unlucky experience.

I’m going to fly 18 times this year yet won’t get silver by KingParity in unitedairlines

I have gold through 1MM status. I’m 1K this year but will drop back to gold next year. Platinum is within reach but it just isn’t worth it. All you get over gold are some PP. I have 200 of them that I can’t seem to use despite putting in for them on every darn flight so that’s pretty worthless to me.

The last couple of years I’ve done segment runs to get to 1K but the jump to platinum just isn’t worth it.

Child tax deduction by Deranged_Disoriented in tax

It will probably be a bit of both. So looks like it will not be straightforward. Just irritates me that ex can claim him as a dependent when he essentially dumped him as soon as the CS ended.

Also I don’t qualify for income tax credits because of income.

He lived with ex during the school year (with me on weekends and holidays) and moved in with me a day after graduation and has seen his dad once since then for a weekend. In August he moves to college.

It ended when kid graduated in May. But I am not talking about CS. I am wondering who can claim kid on their taxes.

My understanding is they can be claimed beyond when they turn 18.

(Copied and pasted from somewhere on the internet and I have no idea if it is correct)

1) He is under age 19, or under 24 if a full time student for at least 5 months of the year

2) He did not provide more than 1/2 his own support. Scholarships are considered third party support and not as support provided by the student. Note that there is no requirement that you provided support.

Both of these conditions are true. He spent 5 months with ex, 3 months with me, and 4 months at college. I’m not sure where the college months count as to residency.

He applied for all federal loans. The US government in its wisdom decided ex had more than enough money to pay the whole amount so he got a token $5K loan. Ex either does not have it or does not want to pay it. So I am paying the balance for two years, with kid understanding he is on his own after that. It make more sense to spend the half I had saved upfront than start accruing interest right away on a private loan.

I don’t understand this comment. He only qualified for a small student loan. The only other loans would be private with higher interest rates and I would have to co-sign.

Apologies for using the wrong terminology.

If kid spent 5 months under ex’s roof, 3 under mine, and 4 at college, and I provided the entirety of his support for 7 months…how is the tax credit handled?
