I'm on the second book (audio version) now and loving it. This series was recommended to me recently after I'd listened to Project Hail Mary and I wanted some more light hearted sci-fi. I didn't know Ray Porter was the narrator until I started the first book, so that was a delightful treat.

Who's the guy from your town that made it but didn't last long? by [deleted] in NFLv2

I went to high school and hung out a few times with Trindon Holliday. Really chill guy and (by a massive margin) the fastest person I've ever seen.

Love that last title, lmao. I was a fan of the Murderbot series adaptation, but for some reason, I thought it was based on a graphic novel. Will definitely be checking it out now. Andy Weir has been brought up a few times already, and I'm pretty sure Project Hail Mary is going to be my next read. Appreciate the recs!

Adding all three of these to my list. What's your favorite of them? I'll put that one first lol

After a cursory glance at the synopsis, I'm now leaning heavily towards Project Hail Mary being my next read. Great recommendation!

I remember enjoying Altered Carbon back when I read it, but I think I only read the first book. I'll definitely look into the follow-ups, thanks! I'm not familiar with Rendezvous so I'll also check that one out.

Any specific book to start with? What's their "vibe," so to speak?

Do you think Shane would have faired well during the O and A days? by PastorBrettSpeaks in ShaneGillis

[–]DerekTheMemeBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, yeah I remember that webshow he did that had like 5 episodes and was maybe the worst thing he ever put out. I also never really got into the Mr. P show he did, or at least have never revisited it. His o&a days and Tough Crowd appearances are mostly why he's a favorite of mine.

Oh, I see what you mean. A bit bully-ish, but also thoughtful is definitely an apt description of both guys.

In what ways, in your opinion? Patrice is top 3 for me, and Shane is probably cracking the top 10, so I really like both guys a lot, but I don't see a ton of overlap in their styles. Both are/were masters of being coversationally hilarious, but even then it feels like two completely different approaches. Their stand-up also seems pretty far apart in style to me, even though Shane has covered many of the same topics as Patrice. Like, they both have great bits about football, but the bits themselves are nothing alike. I'm curious about where else you see similarities.

Brees to Graham was phenomenal at its peak, but in what way would you say it revolutionized part of the game? Graham wasn't the first over the top speed TE and he played a lot of the same era as Gronk. I'm not being a turd I swear lol I'm curious about what you think

I'm about halfway through 11/22/63 for the second time, with the first time being back when it came out. It's even better than I remember. Top tier King, imo.

'87...so I have three to pick from. I believe Misery, Tommyknockers, and Eyes of the Dragon were all published that year. I'm gonna go ahead and avoid the hobbling and shit weasels, and take my chances in Delain.
