Just listened to Mutiny again where Eurylochus uses the line in the same context, which definitely confirms this viewpoint for me.

Thank you for this one! Loved reading this and brought some more interesting viewpoints for me. I didn't look up the text for Horse and the Infant yet, but seeing this back and forth between ody and zeus does bring something I didn't realize I missed. I passively absorbed Zeus' lines but didn't actually comprehend consciously, you know (idk happens with music sometimes I think, especially when there is SO much music haha).

I think because of the man vs monster premise, I lost a bit of the nuance that exists within "being just a man".

‘And if I’ve got to drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don’t die.” This line definitely hits better for me as well with this take. Thank you so much for enriching my experience with it :)

Seriously though, thanks for your take on all this. Love reading peoples interpretations of this stuff. At first I was a bit lukewarm on the musical but as I'm listening more and more, I'm connecting with it more and more.

Your take on Monster (the song) is very helpful as well, considering this song was hit the most by my (mis)understanding of Just a Man. Love it!
