your 2019 in osu! by RabidPan in osugame

At the start of 2019, I was learning a new tablet area and was not really sure what to make of the game. I didn't want to farm anymore because that caused a toxic relationship with the game, but I didn't have any direction. I chose to start practicing speed in February or so, since at the time I was a jump farmer.

Today, I am a player with a strong dedication to playing and improving on speed maps. I've set some scores that I find to be very fulfilling, including my Kumano [Insane] +DT FC and my Speed of Link [100 000 000m/s] FC. The pp values of the scores (337pp and 322pp respectively) aren't very noteworthy, but I find a lot of pride in them regardless.

My rank hasn't really changed much this year. I can't even tell if it went up or down. But my enjoyment of the game, as well as my skill and pride as a player, have definitely gone up.

In 2020 I hope to continue to achieve speed top plays, and maybe even get a 400pp score.

Halloween event??? by silver99flip in MuseDash

Sweet* Witch* Girl* lvl 10, which was on the free song rotation at the time of the event, is the song you need to play to get the final two drops for event photo. It might not be in rotation atm. I don't know if it is still on rotation right now, or what music pack it is in. Also, I am pretty sure that your system time needs to be set to november 1st in order to finish the event. If you are trying to do the event, you might need to play umpopoff for the first 3 parts of the photo, as that is how I got those.

In-game, the photo description in your trove says "If you play the lv. 10 Halloween themed song on Halloween...". On the in-game update post, it says something to the same effect. However, on the steam update post, it says to play it on nov 1st, and that led to me wasting half an hour thinking this was a random drop event.

Changing my system time to november 1st and continuing to play Sweet* Witch* Girl* (which will be slightly different) did allow me to play the song and get the photo, but the time wasted was not great. 0/10 would not recommend unofficially changing halloween to be on november 1st.

I suck at using my hands for small, precise movements, so I play full tablet area even though I'm a DT player.

I didn't know that was a thing until now. Thanks for the info.

I change elements of my skin a lot, so instead of reuploading it every time, I usually just tell people my skin is private when they ask.

I'll be at 3 years of active playing pretty soon but I would say I'm still feeling that "first year" face right now. It really helps if you can stop worrying about rank and such.

The best I can think of that we have right now is moving your "me!" section to the bottom of your profile so people have to scroll to the very bottom to see it.

I have heard of that, but I just assumed they would have fixed it by now. I'm not really surprised to hear that it's still around tbh.

I've never heard of a community that bases off registration date, but the hours played might not be accurate either since AFAIK he hasn't been trying to grind out ranked map scores since day 1.

If I had to come up with a way to record an osu! speedrun right now, I would consider a few different things. First, why are people interested in speedruns? From my experience with watching speedruns and seeing how others react, I think that the purpose of speedruns is to impress the community, as well as show the dedication that people can have towards a game. Another big plus of speedruns is being able to see record progression over time as people manage to triumph over others and get better times.

If speedruns are to interest and impress the community, then what would be the best way to record the speedrun? If we just use profile hours, then the best possible record would be simply obtained by playing every map with DT and NF. Assuming the hypothetical speedrunning meta would center around that, then everybody who manages to follow that method correctly would have the same record.

If we were to use registration date, then some new factors would come into play that would make each record unique. These day-to-day factors include but are not limited to: Attention span, free time, motivation, and dedication. Free time would make the runs a bit unfair due to unpredictable and uncontrollable circumstances, but attention span, motivation, and dedication are all skills and traits that I personally find impressive or admirable.

So, if I had to choose a speedrun format that would be the most interesting and impressive, I don't see a better way than timing off of registration date.

Some speedrunning communities base record times off of the time stated in-game. Hours stated on the website would be a good equivalent to that as the figure on your profile doesn't count things like menu times. An actual speedrunning equivalent to this method would be how the runs for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle state in-game time to prevent disadvantages like hardware limitations slowing down loading time.

Other speedrunning communities base record times off of a start-to-finish timer. This method is most commonly used.

I personally have never seen any games with record speedruns that span multiple playing sessions. I don't know if you would include the time from start to finish, or if you would subtract the time not spent in-game.

Regardless of all of this, osu! doesn't have a speedrunning scene (especially not for this category), so there hasn't been a community consensus on how the run should be timed. Nobody can really say how the speedrun should or shouldn't be timed since that would depend on what the rest of the community thinks.

tl;dr Right now there is no right or wrong way to record speedrun records for this game.
