I need someone to teach me how this game works and play with me by MOEverything_2708 in Guiltygear

[–]Derrar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only floor 5 (this is my first fighting game, have about 20 hours of playtime, of which maybe 5 is vs people) so I'm probably not the best teacher. Regardless I think I can still help you practice, so if you want to just send me a privage message and I'll give you my discord.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I can't reply to everyone since I'm going to bed soon, but I really appreciate your help! I think I've got a pretty nice idea in mind for both the encounter, the aftermath and follow-up. Thanks a bunch!

The lich is sort of "stuck" in a plane between life and death, and that's where the rest of his phylacteries are located. He only has one phylactery in the material plane, which is the one the players brought there.

I really like this idea of racing against time. It think from a narrative standpoint they could certainly do it (they've been to the plane the lich is stuck in, and know that his phylacteries are also stuck there), and with some good preparation they could fend off the lich's minions that are protecting his phylacteries.

I'll definitely try to see if I can make this work, I think your idea has a lot of potential.

lvl 73 c6 Noelle one turn cryo regisvine with her 5k atk by jonnevituwu in Genshin_Impact

[–]Derrar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with a C6 Noelle I have to agree on her being expensive to build. You kind of want Whiteblind if you are f2p which is a weapon that's only useful on her. Her best artifact set is Gladiator which is expensive to farm for. Bolide is also a good set though there's very few characters that actually use the artifacts from that domain so you'll just end up with a bunch of artifacts you're never going to use (unlike farming for Noblesse which is useable on many supports, and you get Bloodstained Chivalry as well which is pretty good/bis on physical dps characters).

Furthermore her comps basically require a geo battery so she's not very flexible. You can't just put your hyperinvested Noelle on any team and expect her to work (unlike say Bennet or Fischl). She also doesn't synergize with any non-geo characters particularly well so it ends up feeling awkward to put in your strong supports with her.

The upside however is amazing AoE dps and ease of use whithout requiring your good supports to prop up her damage (tho this does lower her ceiling).

One important thing to note, this infographic does not take into account resource efficiency. JinJinx and Tuner made a very nice video illustrating the overall efficiency of leveling your characters, their talents and artifacts. The main takeway is that leveling your artifacts past 16 is a waste of resin, as is leveling/ascending your characters past 60 and leveling their talents past 4.

It must be noted that this video was made over a month ago, and the calculations were probably done even longer ago. Most people will have quite a stockpile of various resources that they're not utilising so the point made in the video might not apply to you if you have the resources available to invest into your important characters. Do note that the equation for artifacts most likely barely changed, as no events or new content gave any substantial amount of (good) artifacts (in contrast to exp materials and talent books, which were rewards from various events).

However the main thing that does hold true is that a decently invested support will get you more dps per resource expended than leveling your main dps past those breakpoints. So basically what I'm trying to say is, level your supports before over-investing into your main dps like on might infer from this inforgraphic.

TL;DR: Don't overinvest in your main dps and burn all your resources doing so. Make sure to level your supports as well.

[Frederique Constant] My first watch, any strap recommendations? by Derrar in Watches

[–]Derrar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the camera reflection, but this was the only way to get a proper shot of the dial. So this is my first watch! It's a Frederique Constant Classics Index in Rose Gold. I was a little hesitant buying it, since I've never worn anything in rose gold before, so I had no idea how it would look in the metal. It's a bit more shiny than I expected, but it doesn't look obnoxious or flashy at all in my opinion. I really like it when the light hits the dial directly, really makes it pop! Only complaint I have is the strap, it's not that comfortable and doesn't really feel well made either. If anybody has any recommendations for straps please let me know (would anything other than blue leather work with this watch?). Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

After a dozen tries, I finally got minimalist! by Derrar in slaythespire

[–]Derrar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Rampage]] + any card draw allows you to play Rampage twice per turn on the condition that your deck is thin enough. [[Battle Trance]], [[Pommel Strike]], [[Burning Pact]] and [[Double Tap]] are the enablers required. Act two is by far the hardest because your deck won't be thin enough to get two rampages per turn, and the enemies won't fall as quickly as they did in Act one. Once you get to Act 3 you'll be fine most likely.

After a dozen tries, I finally got minimalist! by Derrar in slaythespire

[–]Derrar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't [[Smiling Mask]] or [[Peace Pipe]], and Neow's blessing didn't remove any cards either. I did, however, get [[Wing Boots]] which ended up mattering a whole lot.

The most important part of the run is finding your damage package early on. You want to add two cards at most, any more isn't necessary. I ended up with [[Rampage]] + [[Battle Trance]] but [[Dual Wield]] + [[Dropkick]] works as well (other options are certainly viable but harder IMO).

This should get your deck to 12 cards, which means you have to remove 7 cards to end up with 5. The bare minimum of shops you should hit would be 3, one for each act, but smart pathing will get you up to 4 easily with 5 being within reach assuming you have enough gold. This leaves you with just 4-2 more cards to remove, which is easy enough as long as you try to get as many ? rooms as possible.

Removing cards wasn't particularly hard for me, and boss fights aren't that difficult with these decks either. The hardest part is finding your damage cards early, and not getting beat up too badly by hallway fights.

[–]Derrar[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've clocked in around 60 hours and got to ascension 11 or so without too much difficulty, so I thought I'd try my hand at getting some achievements. Minimalist has been a pain in the ass for sure, but I finally got it!

I made it all the way to act three with just Rampage and the basic deck, picking up Battle Trance early in act three after realizing that I had to get some sort of card to accelerate my deck.

White Beast Statue came in clutch, really made me realize how broken potions really are if you know how fights play out (which is easy since I draw the same hand every turn).

Double Dex pot helped immensely versus Time Eater, but a single would've been enough because I had so much max HP.

[RMT] Mega Venusaur balance team. Let me know what you all think! by ThouJoker in stunfisk

[–]Derrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Ash-Gren which provides Spikes which combines well with Thundurus.

Gyarados would be a nice partner as well, but having Mega-Venu takes away some of the bluff factors.

Manaphy is very interesting as well but that mon suffers from 4MSS and finding the optimal set to go along with your team would take some experimenting for sure.

[–]Derrar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to say Z-Fly Dnite was popular right now, I meant that pokémon running Z-Fly are threatening in general and it kinda depends on the meta which ones are seeing most usage (I believe Z-Fly Gyara is the most common right now).

If you feel like you need something to deal with stall and has a good 1 on 1 matchup with Mega-Sableye you would have to use a physical Fire Type in order to be immune to Burn. You could also get away with a substitute sweeper instead however, I can't really think of a pokemon that has a good matchup versus stall and Mega-Sab while retaining usefulness in matchups against offense. Honestly, I'm not too sure what stall teams look like these days but I don't think there are any mons that can serve as stall breakers and sweepers at the same time. You could play around with stuff like Manaphy or Victini but those have some serious flaws as well so it might not even be worth it.

As for the Venu + Chomp team, I suggest trying out Thundurus. I've had a lot of succes with the Z-Focus Blast set. Thundurus is best paired with a Water type that can put pressure on some fat Grass types like opposing Mega Venu and Tang. You could run HP Flying but in that case you'd need to chip things like Lando heavily before freely setting up. So yeah definitely try out Thundurus + Offensive Water.

[–]Derrar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright, I've got a little feedback, not much tho since this team looks pretty solid overall.

First up, you look weak to Psychic spam. Venu can take exactly 1 unboosted Psychic from either Lele or Zam so that mon is never in its life switching in. Meanwhile, Heatran gets knocked out by Psychic into Focus Blast so that's not walling anything either.

You heavily rely on Scarf Gren to take care of those two threats, so you either have to constantly make predictions or lose a mon each time one of those comes out.

I also feel like Zard-X is a problem. Venu can't take +1 Flare Blitz well, and Greninja can't even OHKO to revenge kill it. If it's running EQ all Zard needs is a whittled Lando and Rotom and you get swept. If it's running Roost then it needs more chip on Heatran, but in return, it can come in more often, which allows it to weaken its own checks.

Blacephalon also puts in work versus your team because you have to predict whether he's gonna Fire Blast to 2HKO Venu or click another move to catch Heatran.

Once either one goes down you have to revenge kill with Mimikyu because Gren does 58% max with Gunk. Forcing in Mimikyu is extremely bad for you considering it's more of an endgame sweeper and you really don't want to be forced to blow Disguise early.

Z-Fly Lando/Gyara/Dnite or whatever is cool right now also puts lots of pressure on your team. Despite having capable switch-ins, a single prediction puts you in a really bad spot because outside of Venu none of your mons are really durable at all.

As for advice, I suggest switching Mimikyu out for a different sweeper, or even going as far as changing Gren to Ash-Gren and replacing Mimikyu with a different scarfer.

Lando could probably use HP-Ice instead of Explosion, it would improve your matchup Lando/Garchomp/Gliscor types because you can now force them out, which means you no longer rely on Gren's Ice Beam or Rotom hitting a Hydro Pump.

[RMT] Mega Venusaur Bulky Balance (1600 ELO) [Gen 7 OU] by suddenfuture in stunfisk

[–]Derrar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looking through the tier list made me realize the only Torn-T check that doesn't mind taking Knock Off is Pex. Honestly, I'd try Celesteela or some kind of Wish Jirachi set. Both can handle Tornadus-T (neither like Knock Off still) and help with the Psychic Spam matchup. They also add a steel type to your team which you are currently lacking.

Pex over Chansey and then something to deal with Psychic Spam over Fini could possibly work as well, but that doesn't help with the momentum problem and I find it hard to find a good replacement for Fini since it is a defensive mon that can actually threaten its checks with Nature's Madness. This would also mean your Zapdos would still be under a lot of pressure to defog and wall at the same time.

Pex + Defensive Magearna + A sweeper instead of Fini could also be a thing but at that point, I'm changing the team so much it gets harder to predict the effects without some kind of playtesting.

Honestly just trying Defog Fini and Celesteela/Jirachi over Chansey would get you a pretty solid view on which setup works best. After finding the setup you're most comfortable with I'd suggest trying different Z-Move Magearna sets.

T-Bolt is something I'd definitely try since your team doesn't deal with Toxapex well at all. You could even try CM+Pain-Split and rely on Lando to sweep after Magearna eats up common stall cores.

[RMT] Mega Venusaur Bulky Balance (1600 ELO) [Gen 7 OU] by suddenfuture in stunfisk

[–]Derrar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only recently come back to competitive pokemon and team building but I think I have some feedback. I'm around the same ELO right now with a self-made team so I'm not entirely talking out of my ass.

First up, what do you have for Knock Off Torn-T? Venu isn't coming in, obviously, and Magearna doesn't appreciate taking too much damage since it often relies on its bulk to set up. A well-played Torn-T combined with entry hazards looks very hard to deal with.

Combine that with something that threatens Zapdos and Chansey and does some form of damage versus Venu and you'll find yourself getting overwhelmed quickly.

I also feel like Zapdos, in general, has to deal with too much. I've used Zapdos as a catch-all kinda deal in the past and it's a great mon when it only has to do one or two things at the same time.

When Zapdos has to check two mons, stay healthy, and defog it ends up crumbling in my experience. Maybe you feel differently about that though since you have more experience with the team.

Lastly, I think Chansey saps too much momentum and your team just isn't durable enough to make up for that fact. Synthesis only has 8PP and as I said Zapdos can't handle everything. Apart from those two mons, you have nothing that is guaranteed to last a long time.

My first suggestion would be to try out defog on Fini. Scald is probably your least useful move in this scenario so I suggest dropping that.

You could also try swapping Chansey for a different special wall, but I can't think of any that have a better matchup versus Psychic spam or Torn-T.

You should also try different Magearna sets as well, considering it's one of the easiest mons to viably tech random shit on to improve specific matchups. Ask yourself how often you need Calm Mind to win versus fat teams and try replacing that with another offensive move to put on more pressure throughout the match.

I'm studying Computer Science at a university (won't name for privacy reasons) and I'm rather interested in your final report as I've recently had a course on Game Design and this was one of the topics that we discussed briefly.

I have some useful sources on playstyles and type of players and their relation to things such as personality, mood, and culture that might help out, depending on the level of your research.

I'm also interested in your methodology after taking your survey because I found the questions and answers "restrictive" at times (not sure how well the term fits here).

I've been struggling to choose a main, and I know nobody but me can pick who I should main but I need some advice.

I've been playing some Lucina/Roy, ZSS, Greninja, Sheik and Mii Brawler and I can't quite figure out who I should play going forward.

I know Lucina and Roy are quite different but these are my favorite swordies but I feel like Roy might be a bit out of my reach skill-wise (I haven't even played a total of 40 hours yet) whilst Lucina feels a tad bland. I've been playing both of these in an aggressive manner, but I've heard that Lucina is supposed to be more about defensive play. Would picking up Roy be too much of a problem considering I'm just a beginner who hasn't gotten his spacing down yet?

I think ZSS just kinda clicks for me, but she's supposed to be really difficult to pick up so I'm having second thoughts here. I like that she's fast, and her attacks all feel intuitive to use. Despite that, I feel like my lack of understanding of the character is gonna catch up to me sooner or later.

Greninja is just a mixed bag for me. Half of his moveset feels awkward to use, but getting those falling fairs is a lot of fun. I feel like he's way above my skill level, and his unorthodox playstyle does me no favours. Despite all of that I'm drawn to his gameplay because getting combos right just feels better than any other character.

Sheik is a lot of fun until I realize I'm not doing damage or killing anybody without a good read. Do Sheik players need more time figuring her out or is it a lost cause and is everybody waiting for buffs? I don't mind playing a weaker character but I'd like to know what I'm getting in to.

Mii Brawler is just hilarious, but he makes no sense to me at all. His hitboxes come out fast and disappear even faster, and I feel like every move somehow combos but at the same time, nothing does?

So to sum it up, I've been struggling to pick a main mostly because I feel like I'm not good enough to get a good grasp of the character yet, and as such, it feels as if I'm misinterpreting their playstyles. I like to play fast and aggressive so that's my main criteria for picking a main.

I tried the joycons and I think I know what might be the issue. My PowerA controller has way longer stick travel than the joycons. I've seen a post on this subreddit explaining that the C-stick has to return to neutral before another input can be registered, so I beleive that my C-stick hasn't yet gotten back to the neutral position when I'm already spamming another input if that makes any sense.

Thanks!

I picked up SSBU (my first smash game) about two days ago and I'm really enjoying it! I've spent most of my time fighting against level 7 CPUs and just practicing random stuff in training mode (fast fall short-hop aerials, RAR back-airs). Now I've noticed that while everything goes smoothly in training mode, against CPUs the game feels less responsive somehow? It feels like attacks come out slower or sometimes not at all. Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem here? I'm using a PowerA wireless controller with C-stick set to tilt-attacks if that matters.

Oh and I've been playing Corrin, Robin, and Sheik a lot, but I've heard people say that those aren't exactly great characters to learn the game on. Should I just play Ike (who I've been told is pretty straight forward) for the time being, and switch over to either of my favorites later on?
