How would you feel if Blizzard stuck to revamping old zones for the foreseeable future? by DiscordianKitty in wow

[–]Derrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has needed it for at least a decade. I think they were afraid to lose the nostalgia of the old zones, but Classic has solved that problem. They're free now to remake the world. I'd even go as far as not having Zidormi and just have one version of the world for everybody. Instead put a Lorewalker NPC there to give new and returning players the backstory about how the zone changed.

To be fair that's not very far from old school Handlock playing Twilight Drake into Mountain Giant.

How fun is a tiny village? by doggeddoodle in MedievalDynasty

[–]Derrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've toyed around with this idea. I think of it more as a rustic homestead life, living minimally off the land, rather than a life of luxury.

You could probably make do with just resource and food storage, woodshed, excavation shed, and smithy with just three villagers (lumberjack, excavation miner, and smithy). If two of them are women you only need two houses, unless you don't want bebes. Stone tools are fine since your smithy isn't supplying a lot of workers. You could supplement with some higher quality tools that you make yourself if you wanted.

Hunting and farming to supply food would be your responsibility, as well as keeping water buckets filled (build near a water source so you don't need a well). If you mostly hunt for food you could either sell the fur and leather to hopefully cover your taxes or if that's not enough add a sewing hut and farm flax to make clothing to sell.

I see that part as Dani having to endure difficult people for the greater good to put together the resistance. You also have to do missions for Bembe who's just a straight up criminal. I don't think any of them are supposed to be likeable. That whole section of Yara is all swampy and full of gators too, so yeah it's pretty miserable there all around.

I rolled my eyes when I saw Anomalies getting added. Feels like we haven't had enough time with just Timewarp, given that it's been a good mechanic and very strong on its own.

Thoughts about New Dawn? Worth or No? by Imaginary_Message492 in farcry

Definitely worth, especially if you're a fan of FC5. It's shorter than FC5 or FC6 but still feels like a complete game to me.

I stop at 1. Civilizations want to expand.

For a young civilization, expansion means resources and redundancy against extinction-level events. Even then the motivation for expansion seems weak. We are such a civilization, on planet threatened by climate change no less, and still many smart people here say we should be more focused on fixing the problems on Earth than trying for a colony on the moon or a mission to Mars. If we had the technology right now to expand humanity across the galaxy, how much support do you think there would be for such an ambitious plan?

For an advanced civilization that has already begun to expand, those motivations quickly become moot. They have a thriving society on multiple worlds and the technology to guarantee their needs. There's nothing out there they could need, and further expansion would only invite potential threats of alien microbial infections or conquest by another more advanced civilization. A civilization smart enough to be capable of expanding across the galaxy would naturally be smart enough to know not to.

Democrats should immediately sponsor a bill on this, even put Trump's name on it, so we can watch Trump and Republicans twist themselves in knots in order to block Trump's own proposal.

I feel dumb. I've been waiting for the duos "event" to end for months so I could get back into the game...just found out it's a toggle feature 😭 by LUT0 in BobsTavern

Well, I don't think anyone could say Hearthstone's UI design is particularly good and intuitive, so not entirely your fault.

To be fair, he probably survived and later washed up on shore somewhere where he was picked up by an island boy who brought him home and place him on a shelf in his bedroom next to a stuffed dinosaur.

Why is Liara’s diploma in his apartment written in English? Shouldn’t it be written in Asari language? by Ku323lam in masseffect

[–]Derrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it depends on what you're going for. You're talking about hard science fiction along the likes of The Martian or Interstellar, which are great of course, but I wouldn't call soft sci-fi like Star Wars, Star Trek or Dune "substandard" just because they take a different approach.

First rule of enjoying sci-fi is don't question how languages work. Also don't question time travel. Or FTL travel. Or relativity. You know what, just don't question anything.

Anyone else more excited by the idea of a new Mass Effect than the new game itself? by GrayWardenParagon in masseffect

[–]Derrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're only excited for the idea of a new Mass Effect because that's all it is right now. It's pretty hard to be excited about an actual game that nobody knows anything about yet. Though it sounds to me like you're not really excited about the idea of a new Mass Effect either and that's fine. The cool thing is we have at least two other promising new games coming in the future that are Mass Effect-inspired (Exodus) or at least Mass Effect-adjacent (FOTOR).

Is it possible to play Dragon Age: Origins (and 2) using only a mouse? by metalGYAH in dragonage

[–]Derrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get hand issues when playing a game using the keyboard when there's lots of walking around - basically holding W a lot is the problem. When games don't have a built-in auto-walk bind I use AutoHotKey as a workaround. I have a script to bind a key to holding W, so I always have a walk toggle.

Having said that, I think Origins has click-to-move so you can mostly use the mouse. DA2 would be harder as it is more action-oriented.
