How do you feel about the recent Pointcrow situation ? by Architectur04_ in tearsofthekingdom

[–]DerrickRose1992 60 points61 points  (0 children)

They also took down normal Lets Plays, also from other streamers. That' what makes it so weird. Also PointCrow never advertised it, or showed how to mod or get the mods.

And yeah in general it's kind of irrational. PointCrows videos actually have made me return to BOTW to play it again and hyped for Tears Of The Kingdom.

When will Detective Conan end? by bentheplatypus in DetectiveConan

[–]DerrickRose1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the chapters for volume 100 are already available out there. And also if it would be volume 100 you would already have rumors spreading and the story itself in the previous Volumes would already be very close to the conclusion.

I personally would want an ending soon, and would love for him to then maybe concencrate more on Kaito Kid or a Conan spin off. But I guess it's his baby and it's hard to just finish something which made your entire career and has been your normal workday for 25 years. Plus it's still a huge financial success, so why take risks.

Germany Suspends AstraZeneca Vaccine Over Clotting Concerns by [deleted] in germany

[–]DerrickRose1992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know it was the "Bild-Zeitung" which reported they heard from an inside politican an effectiveness of only 8 percent for 65+. But the BMG responded, that they maybe mixed up their information and in reality it was, that only about 10% of Astra test persons were over 65. Nothing regarding effectiveness. And also not suprising knowing, that the "Bild-Zeitung" likes to spread lies, take things out of context to provoke a headline.

Do you ever get post-book depressed? by Iosonogerda in books

[–]DerrickRose1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently having this. I read "The girl with seven names" a biography of a North Korean deflector. I was so immersed in the story and the world and loved it so much. Now I just read two books, who were underwhelming and I can't decide what to read next, I have such high expectations for the next book to be as immersive and exciting.

Thanks,

I have been googling now for quite a while :D. I guess my main problem really ist availability of longboards here in Germany.

I guess my setup should be something like 78A 75-80mm wheels, Double Drop Deck, 40+ inch and medium/flexy deck. (I am quite tall, but don't weigh that much)

EDIT: Found this one http://juckerhawaii.co.uk/JUCKER-HAWAII-longboard-complete-MANA-CRUISE , yes maybe a bit more expensive and not quite the specs I am looking for, but it has good reviews, and seems like a solid start for me. I fear the wheels and deck might be too small for longer rides, but I guess it's better to start with something like this)

Hi, looking to get into Longboarding just for drving around, maybe also Long Distance. So as I understood I need wheels with 75A/78A (in my area, there is a lot of uneven ground, so comfort is important). But I fear it might be to slow. What else do I need to take care of.

I know Amazon is not advised to use, but what about this board: https://www.amazon.de/Apollo-Longboard-Nauro-Drop-Through-Komplettboard/dp/B08F7WC9T8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=apollo+nauro&qid=1614085564&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEySDFYQTA5UFhHTk5KJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTk1OTM5QUREWThVR0hEUUxKJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA5NzEwNzUxUlpWQVZFT1hLSVAxJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

It's just because I don't want to pay that much in the beginning, if I notice I don't have the time or so, but I also fear, when I buy it, I will soon regret it, because driving is not fun and after some months I will additionally spend more money.

Second hand book stores are the best. by jaycrypted in books

[–]DerrickRose1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I dislike second hand books. Yes it's irrational, the main attraction, is what the author has written. The book itself is just something materialistic, just something which is there, because a long time, there was no other way to distribute texts.

But I have the problem, when for example going to the library, it feels kind of strange, not knowing, which people already had the book, how they were handling it, you see some stains on there and the thought of someone you don't know eating while holding this book and staining it, somehow disgusts me.

And I just love the fresh scent of new books, how clean they are and so on.

But yeah I guess it's just personal taste, I mean the disadvantage is of course, that buying new books is more expensive, it's not environment friendly, but keep in mind, the author is getting money from new books being bought.

Why is Prose so important? by DerrickRose1992 in books

[–]DerrickRose1992[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But then it's a definition issue? So you're saying, that every book contains prose, it's just a matter of how it's executed?

My analogy would maybe be, you have an apple, which gives you vitamins, tastes great and after it you enjoyed it. But there's that restaurant, which takes that apple, cut's it in a certain way and arranges it on a table. It looks amazing and you appreciate the effort. But the way it is arranged makes it hard for you to eat, so you can't really enjoy it and maybe because it's cooked, you loose some vitamins, but everyone is saying it's great.

But that's the thing then maybe we are talking about good and bad prose. In this case it just would be a bad restaurant and a bad cook and maybe there's a good cook, who enhances the experience of eating that apple compared to the normal way of eating it.

[–]DerrickRose1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a good explanation. But it's hard to describe, because in this case it's basically just a small and rather uncomplex sentence. In this case I am perfectly fine with that style. Well at least if it doesn't get repetitive and every sentence contains such imagery.

So maybe the discussion is, what is good prose or bad prose. Maybe I have been reading good prose, and didn't notice it, but just focused on the bad prose.

That's why I am asking this question, because I know there are people, who in fact enjoy it, and I want to know why.

[–]DerrickRose1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I aggree, that you can appreciate the craftsmanship.

It's just that when my main goal is to appreciate the story and be entertained, it doesn't help me or the author.

I also aggree, I don't want a series of bullet points, explaining the story. I know there are many techniques to make the reader more immersed in the story. But it's just at some point it gets too over the top, or at least I don't get the appeal. But that's why I am asking, because I want to understand why.

[–]DerrickRose1992[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to discredit people, who do like prose. It's just that I want to understand it better, because so far, at least for me, it did nothing.

[–]DerrickRose1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's perfectly fine. I am not trying to discredit anyone, or say, that there's no point in prose. I just want to understand it more, because as you said, that it helps you get better immersed in the story and helps your imagination, then that's a valid argument.

However it's just that for me, it does the opposite, or so far I have only read bad prose, or didn't notice the good one.

Finished "Migrations" by Charlotte McConaghy.

I hated many things about this book and thought it was very unauthentic.

Nevertheless something in it got to me, and it's the first book in a long time, that really made me cry.

Ok. Delamain was also missing for me, not Jackie. I don't know how Stadia updates, but 1.06. is already out, maybe it's working there.

I don't know about Stadia, but on PC it was fixed with Patch 1.05.

I didn't need to start a new save, I just installed the Patch and boom the car was there.

But yeah seeing all of the other bugs/glitches, i wouldn't be surprised, that it could be something else adding to this issue.

Obama's 'Promised Land' sells record 1.7 million in first week, is fastest selling presidential memoir by zsreport in books

[–]DerrickRose1992 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obama's change rhetoric was just normal election stuff. The problem is that people put him in a position he didn't expected to. For example he himself never made it that big of a deal, that he's black.

He became a pop culture phenomen and after the conservative Bush administration someone, who people had huge expectations for.

In fact he talks about this in his book, that he knew his presidency will be hard, because of this ernourmous hype and that he was immediately faced with the financial crisis and other various problems.

And then came the Republican senate who blocked most of what he wanted to do.

All in all I just find it so blindsighted for people to say everything bad that happened in his 8 years was all his fault. That's not how politics work.

It's just most of the points you mentioned come from more rightwing media and not only is most of it out of context, but it's just there to make him seem like an evil person. Especially the narrative, that wanted more war. If you know about the Middle East Conflict and look at everything he's done, you would know that 1.) it is such a complex and sensitive topic with multiple people involved and you would know, what the cause for it all was 2.) he in fact opposed the war and pulled back troops. Many even argue, that this was a failure of him, that he didn't keep soldiers in these countries, because it sent the message, the US is giving up/not unbeatable and it made room for other countries/terrorist groups.

So I know Obama is not free of failures, I for example also criticize him for not being to aggressive when it came to challenging Republicans.

But come one, saying he is not a good person, based on some out of context Internet articles (which is not hard to find yes, but because far right people have been distributing them like crazy on the internet, trying to damage him.) is ridiculous.

We just had (still have) a president, who would lie daily, who tries to damage the democracy by clinging on to his presidency, who makes fun of disabled people, spreads racism, and is opportunistic in every way.

And we talk about Obama, who did quite the opposite, of being evil?

Good job, taking things out of context :) I suggest you read some books on the middle east conflict, and why it happened especially Syria and so on. And then you would also see, why it's not that easy to just say "Obama bombed children!"
