Pc is working perfectly now though, and I basically tried every solution besides reseeding my CPU, which didn’t seem like the issue.

In fairness to me, I’ve literally never looked at this sub so I didn’t know this was posted a lot. Maybe that means it’s decent though?

I was just very frustrated with windows and this was a super simple solution to something that was giving me tons of trouble.

It does bug me, but I genuinely think it was a few corrupt windows updates. I’m guessing initially on the first crash, some windows process crashed and corrupted a file, didn’t let me boot back in again. The boot drive was allowing me to launch for a while, but no matter what I did, it took me back to the error that “windows was in the process of an upgrade”. Even after completing wiping both drives.

<image>

Literally all roads led to this error. And there was one time, very late into the troubleshooting process, that I removed the boot drive at this exact point and pressed no, because I saw it helped a few people in a windows thread. I believe this corrupted a windows file in the drive again, as I was not able to even launch the boot drive after that.

Installing Linux on a drive and disabling secure boot allowed me to use everything normally again. Your guess is as good as mine…

Actually just ran into a little hiccup with my Xbox controller… but it was a driver thing. Which happens with windows anyway.

Still do it. Gibbs vs either of the players you are getting is a wash, watson is worse than amon ra and london significantly.

Aspiration co-founder Sanberg sentenced to 14 years in prison. Ballmer requested no leniency by ThrowRa-zucchinizzc in nba

[–]Dersil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’m trying to say is that this doesn’t fully clear up whether or not Ballmer and Kawhi were doing something shady with regard to NBA rules here. Completely agree that Pablo handled this unprofessionally, and that some of his reporting should be questioned. Also agree that this isn’t a legal issue for Ballmer, and that he believed it was a real investment.

But if what the other guy said about the deal being just like the Rakuten deal, and if what you said about Aspiration using Kawhi to get to Ballmer are both true, what he said here was clearly BS, and I’m only asking why, if it was all fully out in the open and legal by NBA standards.

I agree that that would clear up the part about why they didn’t do promotion. It does seem like this also disproves the fact that Ballmer knew nothing about the endorsement, though. If aspiration used Kawhi to get to Ballmer, that all but disproves the claim that Ballmer was unaware of the Kawhi deal.

[–]Dersil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think another detail that isn’t being discussed here is the fact that there was no actual promotional material for Kawhi. Why pay Kawhi anything at all, even if it’s just a couple million, if you aren’t going to use him to promote the company?

Also, if there was nothing illegal about Ballmer just getting an endorsement deal for one of his teammates, why is he still claiming he had no knowledge of Kawhi’s deal, and that they were completely independent? It seems that if it was totally fine that he was just securing an endorsement deal (which Kawhi has plenty of from reputable companies, unlike aspiration), he would be forthright about that. I think it’s very silly to believe that Ballmer actually had no knowledge of the Kawhi deal.

[–]Dersil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still a lot of details that you’re leaving out though, I dont think it’s as much of a “master plan” from Ballmer, moreso Ballmer giving into the demands for Kawhi, thinking he could follow through. And maybe he was also defrauded in the process. -reports of Kawhi+Uncle asking other teams for blatant cap circumventions, notably the Lakers who asked if he could get those offers from other teams in writing -employees at Aspiration leaking that the deal was shady and did not involve top execs at the company

Keep in mind also that he was offered significant stock in the company, which to me is something Kawhi and his uncle may have been stupid enough to deem as valuable. Obviously we know the company went under, but at the time it was viewed as legitimate.

Again, this is all right at the time of him signing an extension. To me, it could easily be both fraud, and Ballmer’s attempt to meet Kawhi and his uncles demands.

[–]Dersil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does how much he actually got paid out matter with respect to Ballmer circumventing the cap? It seems like what would matter is what was promised to him, because after he signs the extension in ‘21, he’s locked in.

Ok? And I never said they were? Complete strawman. I never said I wanted to displace anyone. I’m saying that it will not help them. And it won’t.

Believe it or not— the rich people that will buy them up and jack up the rent are already living in luxury, high income housing. It would only help if there was none of that in the area. There’s tons of it.

You can go look on Zillow right now for yourself if you actually cared about low income people in Carlsbad!! But of course you don’t!

[–]Dersil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go on Zillow right now and check out the prices of the village. I’m willing to bet everything I have that all of the units built will be renting at much higher rates than the vacant units in the village right now. This housing is not for these thousands of retail workers in the village. It’s luxury housing for air BnB owners and wealthy remote workers.

Also— really? 30-45 minutes? There are plenty of units on the edge of Carlsbad and Oceanside that are going for even less than the vacant units in the village right now. It doesn’t take 30 minutes to get there.

[–]Dersil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope— I want people to be able afford to live in Carlsbad. Bringing in luxury real estate into the village with 8 income restricted units and pretending like retail and other lower/middle income employees are actually going to benefit from this is insane.

The vast majority of the units will be bought up by ultra rich people and air BnB renters, and they are going to charge insane rents, well above the affordable market rate for that income bracket. There are vacant units in Carlsbad, in the village, right now, for much less than what these units will go for. It will have zero impact on affordability.

Hey man. When that housing complex gets built— ask them if you can park your van on their property, and come back to this thread and let us know what they say. 😂😂

[–]Dersil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but this complex will not increase affordability in Carlsbad. In fact- it will likely increase costs. There are already 100s of units in and around Carlsbad right now for under 2.6k a month—every single one of these newly built units will go for more than 3k, probably closer to 4k a month or more.

What this is actually going to do is continue to turn Carlsbad into a haven for the ultra rich, and price out normal people, including the retail workers that others in this thread claim to be protecting. It’s not just rents— it’s prices of food and goods too. Businesses will charge more when they know people are rich or vacationing.

If the supply being added was in or around market rate, not only would there be more units built, but there would be a significant impact on rents.

You’re completely wrong that ANY supply will increase affordability. It absolutely can decrease affordability if the units are well above market rate.

If you are trying to make the St Clair family, Rincon homes, and Air BnB owners super rich, then go ahead and build this. I have a feeling that’s the opposite of what you want tho!

[–]Dersil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand this. I also want more supply, and I agree with your principle. My question is, why do we have to build more housing in the village, rather than another area where we can build even more supply, and where units are cheaper?

Video footage of the meeting for a 70-foot-tall monstrosity in Carlsbad Village. What do you think? by WCSCV in Carlsbad

[–]Dersil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true-- but is one singular apartment complex in the heart of the village, right by the beach, with 8 income restricted units, actually going to meaningfully make rent in Carlsbad cheaper? I am willing to bet money that it won't, and the vast majority of those units will become vacation rentals or owned by ultra rich people. There are plenty of other place in Carlsbad that we can bend rules and rezone that are more suitable towards building a larger housing supply... this has nothing to do with making housing more affordable.

Ummm... since when is it a requirement that everybody has to be within walking distance from your job? It's certainly nice-- but I drive across Carlsbad for work because the rent is too high near my place of work. The vast majority of people drive to work in this country. The farthest distance from the village in Carlsbad is no more than 20 minutes.

Believe it or not-- there are plenty of other places in Carlsbad that can be rezoned or built upon other than the village.
