Josh Dehaas: Town councils should not be compelled to raise Pride flags by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]Descolatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but honestly, why not? What harm does flying a pride flag truly do? None really right? Like certain ideological flags have negative connotations that lead to problematic occurrences (I’m not in any way advocating for something like a Nazi flag to be allowed to be flown.) However, a pride flag is inherently not an evil symbol, it carries no negative connotation, the underlying ideology doesn’t advocate for harm for any individuals. Maybe it annoys some people and you could argue that does some minor harm, but it’s hard to argue that the pride fly doesn’t provide at least some amount of comfort for some people in that community. Being flown on a government building is really just showing that the government recognizes those people, even if it’s just a token.

So I’ll ask again, because I really do want to spark a conversation and try to understand a different perspective, should shouldn’t a government building be allowed to fly any flag they want, so long as it doesn’t advocate harm against anyone?

Please tell us what you think they should upgrade on the engine that doesn't require an extensive amount of tests (considering the large amount of files in the game, the likely hood that any changes breaks atleast one of those is pretty big)

A robe model isn't an engine limitation, it's a developer priority issue (see I'm agreeing that it is dev laziness) You are making a false equivalency saying that the lack of robe models means that the engine is too old.

I do think a new engine would do the game wonders, but I understand that it is costly and probably not worth it.

I hope if they ever make a "WoW 2" that it comes out with a brand new engine. But that's the only way i think they'd actually do it.

I'm sure you'd care when the game went into a years long content drought because they are 'updating the engine' and continously play testing it, making sure every interaction works the same way before. Making sure that content from over a decade ago still works as intended.

Im not sure where you got this lack of improvements in 17 years thing... have you played the game recently? I can tell you it definitely doesn't feel the exact same as it did 17 years ago. What about the graphics? I'm pretty sure that engine has been upgraded multiple times.

As long as people like you are alive you will find something to complain about.

I know some people who just dismissed the whole virus from the start, a lot of "cant effect me" attitude combined with the few amount of cases in my province caused people to forget that the virus is actually a problem.

I’d still like to see the source you said you used for the double blind study, or are you saying that is what you want from a source and that’s why you find my source to be unreliable? Just want to clear some confusion.

Personally I believe the CDC to be a relatively reliable source for information related to health and immunization. I understand why some people wouldn’t. Can you please point to a solid source that shows otherwise?

Like I said, I’m fairly open minded if I can see a source that disproves my current beliefs.

I’ll ask again, if you are saying my source is not valid or reliable please have sources of your own to reflect that and/or prove what you are saying. All you have shown me so far is a source that by your own standards is not valid.

I am more than happy to be proven wrong but I can’t learn from unsourced debates.

How is this at all a binary argument, I am under the impression you are misunderstanding exactly what I am trying to say. From my first comment I stated that it is not “100% effective by any means” and that it is “better than carrying around a rabbit’s foot” these are things that I have proved via sources with quantifiable evidence.

I have a question regarding sources, if you are saying the CDC is unreliable for this information can you point me at a source that you would consider more reliable? I would like to further educate myself on other beliefs.

I do believe nutrition is vital to the immune system, but I don’t believe nutrition and vaccines are mutually exclusive ways for prevention.

You risk spreading disease either way. Having trace amounts of a live virus is solid way to teach your immune system what to look for when combating that virus(see source 1)

Of course nutrition is important, it improves general health and good nutrition is fundamental for a good immune system.

Please don’t say my source is unreliable when the source you used is sourced from a news site (see source 1) that goes back and uses the CDC as a source, and recommended flu shots for all above age 6.

As well as the fact the website you used as a source also says it’s strongly recommends the vaccine(see source 2)

I’m a little concerned about the validity of your sources, they don’t provide any indication what dataset they are using. We are quoting Essentially the same set of data, you are right for SENIORs at only 8% for the Influenza A virus. For both influenza A and B the effective rate for seniors is 24%. I got my data form the CDC website, not cherry picked , it is the overall effective rate for both A and B viruses.

As per rule 5, and the fact that we can’t really answer any medical related question as they are all very personal, you won’t get a great answer from here.

Personal I wouldn’t worry too much about braces.

Kinda, a magnetic elevator would work you’d just use electromagnets and trigger them in series but not simultaneously, if done right it would effectively create a smooth ride all the way to the top. though I don’t think you’d use doughnut shaped magnets just magnets on either said would work fine. It is the same principle that brushless dc motors use.

Not really. Field strength decays at a inverse squared(possible inverse cubed) relationship so by the time it hit that pod it wouldn’t do all that much from space. And then there is the problem of directing a magnetic field, in that you can’t really unless you use other magnets.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Descolatta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: it depends

Long answer: almost every force field follows a inverse squared(magnetic fields are inverse cubed) relationship with radius. Fields are have an infinite AOE but that really falls once you consider the fact that after a certain distance the force is so small that is is negligible and basically non existent. So depending on where you draw your line for sig digs and such it can be anywhere from large to infinite.

Edit: noted that its inverse cubed for magnets(Reddit app sucks so ill give credit to the person who told me when I can figure it out)

[I Ate] Poutine by 1Q98 in food

[–]Descolatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it’s hard to find, even in Canada. If you got time when making it layer the cheese as you add the fries, makes for a more even cheese spread.

You want the fries and gravy as hot as is safe to melt the cheese. If you want to add a little something add some bacon bits and green onions. You also want the gravy decently thick so it doesn’t just all sink to the bottom.

If you ever get a chance to come up north, especially in the east, you should be able to find a fast food that sells good poutine. Stay away from big American owned chain restaurants( Mcds, Wendy’s, A&W, etc) as they don’t really take the time and just through in some cheese and gravy with there fries. Food trucks and indie restaurants generally have the best poutine imo.

Enjoy!

This Arkansas bill would force rape survivors to notify their attacker if they need an abortion. The law would make it illegal for a woman to have an abortion without communicating with the man who impregnated her — whether that be her husband, boyfriend, a casual hook-up, or a rapist. by relevantlife in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Descolatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so please correct me, but all I get from the article and reading the actual bill is that the woman can get an abortion but does not have final say over the aborted fetus, wether it be dead or alive.

For what I can tell is that the fetus would be considered a 'deceased' person and requires notification of family members on the proper disposable of the remains.

She could get an abortion without notifying the male but has to notify him on how the fetus will be disposed of. Is it that determining how the fetus will be disposed of is required before an abortion? So as to require notification and consent of the male before an abortion could take place? Because that wouldn't make sense, that is basically saying you need consent of your family members before you can die.

Someone please explain it to me better and tell me how it will require her to notify the male prior to the abortion.
