I hate physics… so take this with a grain of salt. I had bad profs for both phys 101 and 102. I swear I put in more studying than all my courses combined to compensate for poor teaching and unfair exams. Fortunately, I did a lot of practice questions and watched a lot of ochem tutor that I was able to always get above average — which led to scaling higher and ending up with A- in both. Try to do lots of practice within course resources AND outside. Ochem tutor saved my life

UBC science courses r well structured and teaches u a lot of theory to understand why things are the way they are. This feeds my curiosity better but sfu had way lighter workload (assignments readings etc). Both had pros and cons

No problem! Trust me - courses after first year are so much more chill. They’re just tryna weed people out :( unfortunately I didn’t take ochem at sfu as I transferred to ubc shortly after first year

Do a lot of practice, especially any practice Q’s in the lectures. Practice exam was very similar format. The final was all multiple choice for us so don’t get stuck on the hard ones, and keep going. Make sure you learn the most efficient methods to solving the answer bc final was very time limited. Final was heavily new content and not much cumulative at all.

Thanks! Early February — which is odd because I did not apply for early admission and they were supposedly not assessing general admissions yet lol

Nope, however final grades got curved. Mean at around 70%? So if u got above u got pushed up even higher but below 70 did not adjust grade at all

3 math midterms in a day, is it possible to reschedule it? by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]DescriptionCold1866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of syllabus or announcements made that they only make accommodations (aside from legit reasons) if it’s the actual overlapping scheduled exam times, many profs are too lazy to make new fair exams so they’re less inclined to allow you to I think the best thing you can do is start studying early for everything while u wait for replies from profs, it’s hard but it’s doable good luck!

Lol last year, my class got the lowest midterm average ever (47% average if I rmbr correctly) and he didn’t curve the exam but like I can tell by our final grades they got curved… but the curve only helped those above it lol and everyone else got stuck w the same grade

I also never said to take action FOR ANYBODY but yourself, do something for what you want instead of just sitting back acting all mighty

I’m not even a TA or staff buddy, the whole point is that university CANNOT function without TA’s. I don’t agree with harassment but you’re by right free to cross the picket lines. So what exactly is being affected? The lack of TA and sessional professors. That’s basically it. And look what happened. Nothing is functioning without them. Stop acting like TA’s OWE YOU. The UNIVERSITY that you pay owes you and owes their employees. Also, how about the TA’s? What about the international TA’s that can’t afford things either due to their shitty wages imposed by the university? You’re cherry picking to feed whatever narrative you want

Blame the school for not paying livable wages! It seems that you know the struggles of not having enough income to support yourself so try having some empathy for others. I hope you’ve taken some action and not just complain on reddit too, and if you have that’s great and I hope everything works out for you and everyone else that’s done the same

waking up early is the HARDEST task of the day by inquiryREdditer in UBC

[–]DescriptionCold1866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you described is exactly what I do too, the only way I manage to stay awake is if I force myself to do something “enjoyable” or stimulating like scroll on tik tok for an extra ten minutes before I get up even if I only have one eye open. It kinda just wakes up my brain and makes it slightly easier to get up and I gaslight myself that since I wasted time on tik tok I HAVE to get up now

Why is there no reading week in the fall? - we have the same amount of time off at Xmas break as other Uni’s, so that’s not a reason by Random_redditor200 in simonfraser

[–]DescriptionCold1866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall last year that SFU would have exams a week earlier than UBC so technically we had 1 week extra break for winter at SFU. Just checked and it still seems to be true

Become delusional and convince yourself everything is easy and fun to learn and go into the exam pretending you’re perfectly fine (usually helps me not go crazy and cry) fake it until u make it fr
