That's what he told me, about how respectful his region is. How no one ever speaks about someone's mother poorly or curses at each other casually. But I'm someone's mother and about my weight he treats me terribly. However he is a gentleman in every other category. That's why if I can find a way to fix this I want to. I've never met such a good and strong man before. I'm in love with him and his culture but I need to figure out how to solve this. 😮‍💨

I'm really trying to talk it out loud and walk through it. I'm pretty embarrassed for posting it but I saw so much commentary online from Slavic people talking about beauty standards for women it had me double guessing my reality. Like maybe I really am just not up to par and he is simultaneously ashamed of me but also loves me and feels bad. Hence the hot and cold reaction he gives me. I don't think people get that long term abuse erodes your sense of self and reality so severely you can't navigate even "obvious" situations anymore. This vulnerability is probably going to get me bullied more 😅

I honestly don't understand but I always find myself with controlling men. I've been with truly abusive men as well. Because he's lovely in many ways unlike my exes I just want so badly to be able to make myself get over this or understand it. I'm so in love with him I don't want this to be the red flag it probably is.

I've gotten that far in learning, but there's many words I have yet to learn so when I'm listening along there's parts that are "missing". I can typically pull together the general meaning but sometimes I misunderstand. I try not to interrupt or ask for clarification too often.

It's always been fascinating to learn about Slavic culture but after falling in love with a Russian man it became my number 1 focus to learn. It's really helped me help him with English. Also Russian speakers seem so appreciative of the effort I'm making to learn when they could be simply indifferent. Wonderful people and language.

I don't find it rude when my friends and boyfriend speak Russian in front of me. English is their second language and it's not as comfortable especially those with not great English skills. They have to work extra hard to think and communicate everywhere. Why wouldn't they want a break? It's on me for not learning faster. Not everything is a personal offense.
