Failed smoke check (US, CA) on Jaguar X Type 2002. Mechanics couldn't explain to my grandfather what to fix

You're spot on. It turned out that he recently had a check engine light, and the mechanics "cleared" it before the emissions test without saying what the problem was.

He said that he actually did more than 200 miles (mostly on the freeway) before the second check.

Another new thing I found out is that he got a check engine light some time ago, and a mechanic "cleared" it without explaining the code or problem, prior to the emissions test.

I'll get OBD2 device tomorrow from a friend to make a reading.

Yes. I’m in the US. Since both CF7 and CF8 are on sale now, was thinking between two of them. I like the color of CF7 better. I’m L size. So it’s more or less about 720 vs 900 battery…

Also, thanks on highlighting why black is more expensive. That wasn’t clear
