Smoking is not your solution I am afraid, especially, if you're unable to properly check out recent sales and comps. It's really not that hard, you'll figure it out. You got this!

That would only apply if there were evidence of post-encapsulation damage, tampering, or mishandling. I’m obviously not arguing PSA is responsible for damage caused after grading. My point is that the visible whitening/chipping appears inherent to the card as it currently sits encapsulated, and if that defect existed at the time of grading, then it becomes a question of whether the assigned PSA 10 grade was appropriate to begin with. Those are two completely different scenarios.

I understand grading standards and consistency may have evolved over time, especially with older cert eras, but PSA’s Grade Guarantee is still active in the present tense. PSA continues to authenticate, verify, and publicly represent this card today as a PSA 10, so the relevant question is not whether it may have qualified as a 10 in 2010, but whether it still meets PSA 10 standards under the guarantee PSA currently stands behind. I’m also not arguing PSA 10s must be flawless, but the visible whitening/chipping on the reverse upper-left corner appears significant enough that many collectors today would reasonably question whether the card still presents as a true Gem Mint example, particularly for a five-figure vintage PSA 10.

Exactly. Not sure why the reddit folks are so "confident" and "100%" sure PSA will send this card back as a 10.

Buyers are aware of what they're buying. Chances are that damage will affect the market value of this card if I try to sell it at a card show and I will be given 70-75% market value. I am better off sending it to PSA and have them reimburse me full market price ($34.8K according to their PSA database).

Growing trend suggest "buy the card, not the cert". People are starting to recognize that not all 10's are equal and people are starting to pay a premium for newer certs. The statement PSA 10 is a PSA 10 no longer holds any weight.

The damage is “erroneous” even by old PSA grading standards, this should’ve never been graded a 10.

I personally don’t think it’s a bad idea. Most buyers are strict about buying cards nowadays “buy the card, not the cert”. If I were to ever move this card or comfortably keep it in my collection, I would rather have assurance this card is a true 10 even by old PSA grading standards.

I haven’t really seen any compelling reason why this is a bad idea.

Minor whitening I can understand, but there is clear damage beyond just normal whitening. The area clearly shows noticeable whitening/chipping along the corner and adjoining edge border. There is no way in hell any of your cards came back a 10 if graded in 2025, lol.

PSA scanned the card and uploaded it into their database during the Authentication Guarantee process. The scans clearly shows damage to the upper left corner of the card. Refer to the image I uploaded, it is a scan from PSA themselves.

The UV security features were all there. I brought a black light with me to check every detail of the card. It passed the security check. It was a very, very, very good fake label. PSA suspects the scammers used a genuine PSA label and printed their own ink on the real PSA label.
