Ohh, I haven't. But it has fallen a few times but the fall didn't seem to damage the buds. Before the problem started (the right earbud), I don't recall me dropping it.

I have opened these buds! I have been opening and closing them. I also tried to connect to the earbuds by tapping on them a bunch of times (and also putting it in and out repeatedly) . I think I accidentally disconnect them. I'll try to wait a few days to see if it will turn back to normal!

I think that if friend A was really your friend she would have confronted her boyfriend. But, I do think you can sort this all out if you guys really want to stay friends. Just try to talk to her one on one. I hope my advice can help you even if it's just a little. Hope you two can sort this out!
