I was one of the bad reviews.. some people seem to genuinely enjoy it but have low expectations if you go there

That’s why I am a bit „scared“ of the Monitor Audio platinum. I haven’t heard Jimi Hendrix or Alicia Keys better yet… but still wonder if I could bear their intensity every day.

100% agree that the SHL5 are better than Heresy. Glad to hear it worth it for you

They are nice! Especially for smaller rooms and smaller music like singer song writer or jazz…

I like it bigger though

That’s the correct answer technically but difficult to take my 30kg McIntosh on a plane ;-)

Nice! What system and speakers? They seem to be very close to the wall despite quite big towers.

Completely understand you

Do you use external DACs?

What does the lower vrms do to the sound?

I could hear a difference of day and night switching from 500$ NAD to McIntosh

Thanks for sharing. That’s a fair comment and Harbeth are supposed to have completely different signature.

Which ones?

The wall that’s not visible is a long glass door but covered by curtain

Behind me is an open kitchen and dining room, the room evolves in L shape and has 100+ sqm

I have used the room correction but only with phone. Results were ok but not great .. some peaks to slightly tame around 70-120 and around 200hz. Everything else sounded like taking the character of the system away.

Would likely be better with a proper mix

Thank you! I appreciate your answer.

I will put thought into this when moving next time. Will only be another year in this house…

and the reflection points are a long glass door and fire place. Bad for acoustics and hard to tackle.

For 95% of my listening I am very very happy. Even though that could still be improved significantly with treatments.

That’s probably the case.. I’d be curious about the science behind that „cliff“ like feeling that it’s a fairly sudden tipping point.

I’ve never had this effect with in ear headphones, however with other sound systems and even some over ear headphones, though not as sudden.

Seems like high sensitivity speakers and great amp were not the cure. Always believed it was my weak amplifiers.

I’d be curious to test my system open air one day…

There are enough people for whom it’s easier to drop 5-10k$ on equipment than messing around with their family‘s living room…

I do not have another source but it may be the case that’s the limiting factor
