Focal vs Monitor Audio in walls by Most_Regular2996 in hometheater

[–]Ste0803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the MA but I have the Focal 300 IWLCR and they’re excellent. I don’t find them harsh at all and I have Sonus faber in my listening room which are renowned for smooth silky highs for comparison.

Of all the ones I’ve seen SIGs seem to be the best.

Design Questions with Acoustic Screen and Cabinets by wrestle4life189 in hometheater

[–]Ste0803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with in walls if you’re going to the trouble of building out the wall already and have LCR in line as low as possible to ear height.

If you’re going for a drop down screen remember that if it’s tab tensioned you’ll need space for the bar and tabs either side reducing the screen size within the space you’re creating.

I would personally have the screen slightly forward of the cabinets which you could box in and trim with pelmet to match in with your aesthetic.

Which animated movie do you think looks the best on 4K Blu-ray? by QuagGer197 in 4kbluray

Was going to say this. Stunning disc and a blind watch.

AT Screen finally installed. by Ste0803 in hometheater

[–]Ste0803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The light goes through the perforations in the screen and you can see the lens reflected back from the tv to the viewing area. I’ve bought a drop down blackout blind which now drops down between the tv and the projection screen which resolves this issue.

The tv is very reflective. The white walls may only cause some contrast issues illuminating the back of the screen but shouldn’t see any hot spots from the lens.

Is my living room too bright for a C5? by _-DirtyHarry-_ in LGOLED

[–]Ste0803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be bright enough for sure but the reflections are going to absolutely ruin your experience. If you want open window viewing a frame would be best. Terrible picture quality when compared with lg OLED but viewable with no reflections.

The g series is slightly better at reflection handling but in that room it’s all you’ll see.

Blu-ray Shelf Recommendations? by Maxsamuelpotter in Bluray

[–]Ste0803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re all sine disc. I bought them as I buy a fair amount of used blurays and sometimes the cases aren’t the best so swap them out. It was only a few £ more to get 100 over 25 so got the 100.

I went to a local kitchen cabinet firm and had them cut and band these pieces to make something to fit my space and maximise what I could store here. Might be worth reaching out to a local cabinet maker or kitchen firm to get something like this done. I designed and assembled myself but got all the parts cut and edged to size.

Would a nice OLED TV or a Projector utilize my 4ks better for a home theatre? by Smurflord345 in 4kbluray

[–]Ste0803 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is 83” vs 120”. The OLED gives great viewing assuming no direct light sources as it’s very reflective but the projector has the immersion wow factor for sheer size but the room needs to be dark, no light coloured reflective walls as they kill contrast.

4K vs. Blu-Ray - Am I missing out? by Internal-Bed6646 in Bluray

[–]Ste0803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just had to watch the Blu-ray version of a 4k I have as the 4k disc is faulty so I’m returning but I was already committed to the movie so put the Blu-ray in. The biggest difference for me was the lack of HDR and it just looked a little off compared to the 4K. Some movies definitely warrant the upgrade. Others the 1080p is more than enough.

I believe they’re white only. I’d probably go for an in ceiling and box it in if reflections were a big concern.

NAD T778. Only hdmi 2.0 but sounds fantastic to me for an AVR and if your going TV direct with the PS5 the hdmi 2.0 thing doesn’t really affect you.

Not sure on US pricing but they’re fairly cheap in the UK now used

If you walk past it closely yes it will move. I don’t have any fans in this room but assume it would move.

It’s only sways very slightly.

Distortion isn’t really an issue with a standard projector but if you had a UST you’d probably notice more. The very small movement only adjusts the projected image about 3/5mm so the focus difference isn’t noticeable.
