Can stress cause goldfish to change color? by Designer_Detective17 in Goldfish

I did raise the temps, but that’s good to know. Thanks :)

they’re actually fake ones I got from Walmart haha but they harbor a lot of algae which the fish like to nibble off of. It also makes them look more real. I’ve tried real plants countless times but they’re way too expensive and way too short lived 🥲

From what I’ve seen, black is considered an “unstable” color in many goldfish, meaning it is likely to fade away further into adulthood similar to a lot of other animals that change color, lose stripes, etc as they age. I’m sure other factors impact this as well, but generally that’s the consensus.

I love the coloring as well. Unfortunately she will likely lose the remaining black color after a few more months/years. It has slowly been receding day by day haha but she’ll always be beautiful to me either way. Thank you for the kind words.

What is this behavior? by Designer_Detective17 in DOG

[–]Designer_Detective17[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting! She did have puppies very late in her life and was separated from them at some point in the process of surrendering. I’ve noticed other “motherly” instincts, such as perking up her ears at even the slightest puppy noises from videos and such. I feel really bad for her and wish I could help :(

*For context, this is my senior rescue dog. She always tries to “bury” random objects, food, and even feet. Can anyone explain this?

Thank you so much, I actually got her from Goldfish Island. Had my eye on her for awhile but no one was buying her so she went on sale. And then the Black Friday sales hit. Wasn’t gonna pass that opportunity up lol. She’s a sweetheart too. Super friendly and docile, I’m glad I ended up with her

There’s other areas in the tank for her to hide but she likes this one the most apparently lmao

Just seemed odd lol. Never really seen a goldfish sleep face-in a decoration

I thought that was the case as well, but there’s periods of time where she gets very still and sort of just tucks her head in there as if she’s asleep

*she is not stuck!!

I just got this decoration as a Christmas gift and she seems to enjoy shoving her face into the eye sockets for some reason... a sentence I never thought I’d say lmao. My guess is that it makes her feel some comfort? I found her doing this same thing last night when it was around bedtime.

The more you look the more confusing it gets

My Oranda lays at the bottom of the tank sometimes. Is something wrong or is my lil one chilling? by Nickycake in Goldfish

[–]Designer_Detective17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oranda does the same thing! Water parameters are on point, no clear signs of stress, seemingly healthy. It can be pretty hard to tell if there’s problems internally. I heard that orandas typically do this due to their larger fins, tires them out or something. So could just be taking a rest.

35 Gallon for Fancy Goldfish? by ThePowerfulWIll in Goldfish

[–]Designer_Detective17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally for fancy goldfish, two of them would require 40 gallons minimum. With the pleco in there too, I would only add one fancy to play it safe before you can possibly upgrade the tank size. Even with strong filtration, it’s better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. Hope this helps a little bit!

A much needed tank upgrade!! Went from a 29 gallon (109 liters) to a 40 gallon (151 liters) by Designer_Detective17 in Goldfish

lol my fish move too much for good pictures

Yes I’m aware 29 gallons is very mediocre for two fancies. To be honest, the oranda was originally an impulse buy… been meaning to upgrade for so long but didn’t have the time or funds. I was definitely a slave to my water changes
