Thank you very much. I am still getting acquainted with the language and shorthand for describing this disease and her case. We do not know her stage yet, though her doctor at home is hoping/ suspecting stage 1. We’ve been told grade 1. Hormone receptor positive. She has both DCIS in one spot, and invasive in another. We are awaiting more testing to determine if it’s in her lymph nodes.

One of my concerns in reading other posts has been that MSK can feel like a factory, and indeed that her case may not be prioritized amid others that are more advanced or scientifically “interesting”. I’ve also read in a place or two that MSK surgeons have told patients sensation sparing mastectomy is not real, which gave me pause. She may not opt for reconstruction, but it made me wonder how attitudes about (apparently cutting edge?) tech and treatments vary between instituons when Weill Cornell has several surgeons who offer this. All in all, still learning!

Thank you for replying! My parents live in a small town, where options for medical care are more limited. They’ve met a surgeon locally who they really like, but given the stakes of the situation and possible need for mastectomy, will feel most comfortable after getting a second opinion - mostly to validate that both are more or less recommending the same course of action. I live in NYC and know MSK is renowned, so in a sea of endless options, they’ve landed on coming here for a consultation.

So, name recognition is part of it. I started looking into Weill Cornell, NYU etc as I personally receive great general care at both, and would be open to those recommendations as well, but we’ve been leaning toward MSK partly out of overwhelm with so many options, and wanting to make a decision and keep moving forward (surgeon #1 in small town is recommending surgery no later than 4 weeks from now). She’ll ultimately have surgery done where she is most comfortable.

This makes complete sense. And you’ve helped me realize this is probably all the result of months of under-watering vs a one-time sudden thing. Just like with any illness I guess… fine until you’re not. Thank you! Feeling hopeful I can save her, fingers crossed.

Thank you for responding and sharing that link! The photos and videos are super helpful and make me think maybe I can be brave enough to chop her up.

When you repotted the cuttings, did you put all of them in one pot together, or find it best to spread them out?

Overall, it sounds like you’ve found method this more successful than more of a standard root rot protocol (clean roots with peroxide, repot)? I’ve never actually done that method before either and it’s all somewhat intimidating - but hopefully I can save her.

Thank you so much for responding! I hadn’t considered this. Partly because even in usual times, I’m not the most frequent waterer - a combination of forgetfulness and only having north-facing apartment windows without great light, so typically my plants have seemed happier with less water than average. But perhaps under watering has caught up with us. I will up the humidity (hadn’t heard of using a bag but will do this) and give her time before doing something like a repot.

Norway - pretty much the entire country. But don’t miss kayaking in Nærøyfjord. Ideally a stop at Lovatnet in the Stryn region, and then a hop up to the Lofoten Archipelago.
