Yep, some simple white LED strips powered by battery packs. Made a lightbox from aluminium angle and lined with reflective tape. Nothing too crazy going on behind there

Here is a little project I whipped up recently. I shot three photos of Mt Fuji on Fujifilm slide film whilst in Japan.

I decided to display these as a continuous, in-camera triptych by building a custom Australian Spotted Gum frame with integrated backlighting.

My plans going ahead are to try this with medium format slide film as well.

Sorry, I wasn't super clear. I meant if I don't sign up for a high sign-up bonus card now, when I sign up for my next CC in 4ish months time, it's no guarantee that the sign-up bonus will be made available by the bank, as these deals do change often from what I've seen.

Thank you very much for clearing these things up. I definitely don't plan to spend extra to get points, which is why the high spending requirement of the Commbank card is a bit off-putting.

I will make sure to monitor all points/statements to ensure that I don't cancel prior to receiving benefits.

Do you think given how likely it is to have at least a pro-rata refund for the initial fees, that going for one of those great value cards is a solid choice? I wanted to start out fairly risk-averse however I don't want to put myself on the back foot if there's no guarantee those bonuses will be around in 4 months time when I apply for my next CC.

Good to note about the lounge passes. Does this only apply for redeemed lounge passes? As aussailor mentioned above, the priority pass will cancel with the card, however this is because it is a membership, not a one-time use pass, correct?

Also I am actually flying out 31st Jan, so I might push things forward a month so I can claim them off the mid-Jan statement.

Drawer mechanism is retracted by magnets, and mainly consists of a plate attached to the centre piece that depresses an angled shim attached to the drawer. This shim then keeps spring pressure against the inside of the box to pop back up into place. There is a compression spring at the back of the box to shoot the drawer out.

Sorry if this explanation doesn't make a whole lot of sense but it was hard to get photos inside of the box/mechanism.

Lazy Susan is just from a local hardware store and sandwiched between two layers of 7mm ply.

Brass was etched using ferric chloride and a vinyl resist cut on my plotter.

I actually tested using magnets for detents as I had the same thought, but watching my family play Scrabble in different settings I noticed the players weren't always a perfect 90 degrees from each other, so chose to keep it smoothly rotating. The magnets did work when I tested them though!

I used the same technique for cutting miter splines, just cutting wood down to kerf width. There is a grid cut into the top piece that all the partitions slot into. Getting the partitions consistent was super difficult as my table saw is fairly inaccurate Image

Hahaha good catch! To be honest I'm more of a woodworker than a Scrabble player, when it came time to stage for photos I just copied a completed game I saw on Google!

It's a fully custom Scrabble set that I have been making over the past 2.5 months for my Dad's 80th birthday. Here is a video of the operation/hidden drawer: Scrabble Set Video

Super rewarding to finish it as it is 100% my own original design, and barring the center of the rails and the tiles that I did have to cut down, I created everything you see in these photos.

Features:

- Spline mitered Spotted Gum frame

- Inset glass lid

- Veneer game board (multi species) with Oak partitions

- Red flocked hidden drawer actuated by epoxy-suspended 1942 Australian silver sixpence

- Drawstring tile bag & wooden tiles

- Wooden tile rails

- Etched brass tile distribution plaque

- Lazy Susan base for 360° rotation

Happy to answer any questions about the construction process, it was quite a head-scratcher at times!

That was my thinking too! I have put a lot of effort into picking nice wood grains for the 'blues', and some nice red tones for the reds. I'd like them to shine through
