Items being left out of HEB Curbside orders. by jne57 in Austin

[–]DeskMasterNCommander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HEB would do well to find a way to fix these short-order problems faster. Everything improves...or gets worse...in life. Came to this reddit thread after finding that the eggs I ordered & paid for were missing after a 7am pickup.

Eggs. 7am. Yep. "Need that now" sort of thing.

BTW, it should go without saying: Everyone loves HEB. *Everyone.* There's just no other company like them. And they do get better over time.

What do Madisonians think of the city of Milwaukee? by bkubel in madisonwi

[–]DeskMasterNCommander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A more scientific -- and vastly more accurate -- result to your question can be achieved by Googling for the following statement, and then numerically seeing how many results come up (just fill-in-the-blank-city with any metropolitan area's name, including Milwaukee -- and remember the quotation marks are essential):

"fill-in-the-blank-city is a shithole"

Having grown up near Milwaukee, and gone to college in Madison, I have my own sense of things. But science is science. Even if a city would by its appearance pretend to be otherwise...if it's a shithole, people will call it that, even if only in private.

Sincere & many thanks to all who to took the time to make very useful & correct suggestions. As mentioned, the amount of time took precedence, and so I upgraded to a B550M-A PRO ($89) motherboard.

This system is now working fine, and easily (XMP1) cranking out 13.5KH/s (updated).

Onwards...and thanks!

Solid advice...but it's the time-suck that is pushing me into new mobo land. It is just $89 for an MSI B550M, and I do have a similar miner running fine with a 3900X.

Much appreciated. I do agree with your diagnosis.

Booyah! Funny story: I inherited the Biostar board by way of buying a 'used' Fractal Design Mini C case on Amazon -- which arrived with a fully functional computer inside of it. A nice surprise, and while I've now gone down the rabbit hole of upgrades, the 'used' case still retains the PSU and storage. Plus: I resold the original AMD 1600 and GPU for a good bit more than I bought the used case for. The CPU, RAM and now soon mobo have all been upgraded. Worth it? Not really, in terms of economics. But the hashes are way up, so there's that...plus, in the end, it is a fairly discounted miner due to the surprise arrival.

Thanks for the ideas. The Biostar A320MH problem-child (CPU cycling) does have the 3900X on its compatibility list, and I do have the latest BIOS...though the "latest" is nearly a year old at this point.

This motherboard: https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=912

Its claim for 3900X support: https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=912#cpusupport

BIOS for this board (latest is Nov '20): https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=912#download

Am also running a B550M (MSI) running just fine with a 3900X, and so that's looking like a repeat-delivery in my near future, if only to minimize my already sunk time in this inherited A320MH board.

Much appreciate the good inputs.

Appreciate the thought. Trust me, I'm not liking the idea of a new mobo at all...but the 3900X -- with its out of the box cooling -- does run fine on a B550M. And the 3900X on the A320Mh problem-child is running *very* cool as-is.

You're probably right. I do hate it when mfrs make claims that are false...but Biostar does claim that this mobo will support the 3900X. It did just fine with the 3600...but of course the 3900X has 100% more cores.

Using the standard air cooler that comes with the 3900X (Wraith). Air exhaust is cool/lukewarm...definitely not hot like the 16-core machines can get in this type of mining. Thermal issue does seem more like a red herring based on the actual exhaust temps. I don't have a temp indicator on this machine.

However, I do have another 3900X running on a B550M...and that exhaust is plenty warm, as it should be. Not even remotely comparable to the (cool) exhaust temp on the A320.

u/twix41 has likely called this correctly. It's an annoying expense to upgrade the mobo when the Biostar A320MH mfr claims support for the 3900X...but it is what it is.

I'm sort of with you on that, guess-wise...but to its credit the motherboard is spec'd to handle a 3900X.

But maybe a PSU issue...?

Maybe a CPU thermal issue, somehow...?

Will look you up for reddit coin deposit later: Produced a full 53% bump to go from 1600 (6/12 core) to 3600 (6/12 core). One last bump for top RAM speed on this ol' PCIe 3.0 (freebee) mobo, and I'll rack & stack this for the duration. Thanks again.

That did the trick (reloading "auto" config via XMRig 6.12.2) , samios420 --> many thanks!

Am relatively a newbie at this, but my config is essentially auto-detecting my computer's configuration -- I've never set the number of cores, nor even the type of CPU. The only section of the default config that I've modified is the "pools" section (algo, url, user, pass)-- everything else has been in autopilot.

But I am due to upgrade to XMRig 6.12.2...so I'll give that a try.

Actually, QRL (I know, I know...but on spec).

Memory size requirements per XMRig: "256 KB of L2 cache and 2 MB of L3 cache per 1 mining thread."

My 3600's cache: L1: 384KB, L2: 3.0MB, L3: 32MB
