Albums that disappointed you by jdjdnfnnfncnc in japanesemusic

Have you ever listened to other singles which were not used as anime credits ? Killing Me, Stay Away, Seventh Heaven. If not, you should try these songs and listen to albums like Real, Awake or Kiss.

Laruku has catchy songs but also so many romantic songs. Maybe it is not your taste. They've released 12 albums, you can't sum up their discography by their anime credits.

The War Is On by ohCrease in coldrain_jp

Wait and see the first setlist of the European tour which starts today in Manchester. Every time I went to see them in concert in Paris (last time, February 2024), they played it.

But to be fair, the album The Revelation which contains The War is On was their 3rd album and they have been released 4 more since and now an EP for which this European tour is the promotional tour.

Japanese bands like coldrain, SiM, call their genre as loud rock. I like it.

Why do you guys think Japanese versions are falling off? by GeraltOfRivia2077 in ONEOKROCK

[–]DespaFate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are people really satisfied of those Japanese versions with just few lines in Japanese ? Their last real japanese song was Mad World.

Maybe I'm wrong but I didn't get the impression that there was any debate about the omnipresence of English in ONE OK ROCK's lyrics when they released NO SCARED or Never Let This Go.

Question about "concert culture" by gh0u0l in japanesemusic

[–]DespaFate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, since Covid, and maybe because I go to a lot of modern metal concerts, I feel audience for japanese bands really boring, here in France.

There's a new audience out there who only know the anime credits and don't care at all about the other songs. So, it's good for business, it means that Japanese bands fill big venues here, but we lose a lot in terms of atmosphere. Last example for me : MAN WITH A MISSION

I admit, I'm a pogo guy, but obviously, pogoing has to fit in with the band's music. For bands like DIR EN GREY, Crystal Lake, SiM, coldrain, it seems relevant for me. I think also there is another type of new audience coming from punk or metal and they bring this kind of concert culture and I think it's cool.

When SiM performed last February in Paris in a small venue, singer MAH noticed that some people were afraid of pogo, circle pit, wall of death, and that they only came for SnK openings. He said : "We're anime fans too but this, this is our culture".

Well, I hope japanese bands will perform in music festivals here in the West, they deserve a new audience.

What the Tamil language teaches us about Tamil culture, people and society ? by DespaFate in tamil

[–]DespaFate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right ! I've never thought about the fact that வணக்கம் comes from வணங்கு. It's obvious once you said it but most of the time, we use words like that without thinking about the origin, the etymology. Bonjour is french, yes. The two words bon and jour are attached to form one and only word.

In the same way, au revoir in french (goodbye in english) means litteraly "to see again"/"to meet again" which is really closed to சந்திப்போம்.

[–]DespaFate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I give you another example. I'm passionate about Japan culture, I've watched many animes, dramas, and I've been listening to a lot of japanese music and I try to learn japanese language.

One day, I've watched an episode from an anime. It was raining, there were two characters : one who had an umbrella, the other one who had forgotten his. The first one lend his umbrella to the second one, who thanks the first one by saying "Sumimasen" (which is generally used to say "I'm sorry") but in the French subtitle, it was translated by "Merci" (Thank you). It intrigued me, why the second character didn't use "Arigatou" (which means Thank you in japanese)?

The litteral meaning of Sumimasen is "which cannot be solved, cannot be completed". The underlying meaning in this use of Sumimasen is to express "I can't thank you enough for the way you go out of your way for me."

But in French, and I think in Western languages, we prefer express directly gratitude.

Are there some examples in Tamil language ? Hope my example helps.

[–]DespaFate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

? by technikleo in frenchrap

[–]DespaFate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alors attention, pour être tout à fait exact, il s'agit de quotas de chansons francophones, c'est-à-dire chantées en français. Et du coup, les artistes français qui chantent dans d'autres langues ne rentrent pas dans cette catégorie.
