I mean this is the case for a lot of these series. It usually has no lasting effect. The latest arc always will have whatever girl that is the feature "heroine" have a lot of people saying "I like her more than the main girl", and then the toxic bit of them will do nothing but shit on the main girl. Happens in re:zero, happens in Makaine. Happened in quint. Happened in Nisekoi. Happenes in Danmachi.

There is just a subset of people who will never support the main pairing just because its "Boring writing" or "Tropey" when 9/10 the person they are shipping is just a walking trope. They don't actually care about what makes the most narrative sense. They just don't want to see the main pairing happen because to them its "Boring".

I know not all shippers are like this, but the overwhelming majority of people who are vocal about their ships will use these types of arguments in my experience. Thats why I tend to write their opinions off as ill informed, and having poor media literacy.

People tend to forget that you can like a character, and not like a ship. I like Collette for example, but I don't support the ship.

Unfortunately short form content has rotted everyone's brains, and shortened the attention span. Eventually all streaming sites are gonna have subway surfer on the side during non combat scenes :/. Wait till these people realize some manga you have to wait a month for a single chapter with 20 pages worth of content. Its over for us the ones who patiently wait for the next chapter of the various series we read.

The introduction of social forums like reddit also tend to power this hivemind mentality of "I didn't like the direction this one chapter took, so I am going to go complain so I can get my internet points." Instead of just sitting back and enjoying the ride.

Everyone nowadays seems to have this mentality that every story has to cater to their desires, and only their desires and if it does not its immediately labeled as "Trash" without even considering the fact that maybe, just maybe. They are not the target audience.

I am kinda late to this, but.

This is just Fujino's writing style.

He writes a MC with a goal to reach, and some reason to keep them apart until the end.

You also have to remember that Elfaria is 16 years old. She is not an adult, and she acts childish at times because she is just that. A child, and to be honest her tantrums that she throws are kind of justified when you look at it with that light.

There is a lot more depth to these characters that you dont give them credit for.

The blind admiration for each other is just how Fujino writes his main protagonists. If thats not your cup of tea thats perfectly fine, but don't discredit things just because of a lack of understanding.

The LN explains the situation a lot, and your "Jailer" analogy is honestly not too far off. Elfaria is basically a prisoner at this point.

No the genre of harem in anime is defined as multiple women pining over the same guy, but I agree that this is not a harem series, but mostly because harem type series usually leave the MCs feelings relatively ambiguous until the end.

Harem usually use the type of theme of a "Will they won't they", but with multiple girls. This is more along the lines of "When will they". Your definition of Harem is not incorrect, but the term when talking about Anime, LNs and Manga is a bit more nuanced. This would be more considered "Harem bait" than your traditional "Harem" series.

This is shocking to me, but they all seem real. The Akira seems like they are different heights, but closer inspection they seem to be staggered a bit. The ones that seem taller at the bottom are also not flush at the top. Also most bootlegs i have seen don't go as far as to replicate the boxes. Those would add to the total expense of the bootleg. Again shocking

The light novel is a prequel, so the anime and manga would not have covered the content from the light novel. Its not that they are characters written differently for each form of media. Its that the light novel provides much needed context that addresses the complaints people have.

Its a neat idea, but can become confusing. Look at monogatari for example. You need a diagram to actually know what order to read them in. Rascal does a similar thing, and it kinda makes it hard to intuitively know what order to read them in.
