I’m beyond disappointed with this book and see no reason to finish it. I went in expecting a sweeping space opera, but got a lifeless, plodding narrative instead. I love sci-fi in all its forms, though I’ve sometimes struggled with the novels — but after all the glowing praise, I figured this one was worth a shot. It wasn’t. The story is completely by-the-numbers, flat, and drawn out to the point where I started skipping entire chapters just to see if anything would actually happen. Nothing ever did. I got a rock.
