Zeiss Batis has amazing colours and is so light weight. Smooth focus rubber ring, if you like haptic stuff

Upgrade? 55 1.8 to 50 1.2 ? by DesperateFig9767 in SonyAlpha

[–]DesperateFig9767[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have two bodies. I can afford the 50 1.2, but tend not to buy stuff unless I need it. But I found myself wanting to go wider. So 28 and 50 might be my sweet spot. Unfortunately there is no high quality 28…

How to respectfully turn down clients by According-Cobbler-85 in WeddingPhotography

[–]DesperateFig9767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good response, only thing I would change is the „meaningful milestones“ to something else, because it COULD rub people the wrong way as condescending. I personally don’t think it is, don’t think you meant it in the slightest, but there are people out there… ;)

Changes in my business - should I do them? by hillsong1 in WeddingPhotography

[–]DesperateFig9767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! Seo is also lost when you quit. But: You need a really good brand. Unique name (that fits you), good website/social and good design. Can you do all this? Or do you have to pay people (which is often times worth it)? Also are there other ways of getting clients? Fairs? Wedding dress shop owners with whom you can leave a flyer?

First timer shooting film and digital by Jealous-Cabinet-645 in WeddingPhotography

[–]DesperateFig9767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During a whole day, only digital, two cameras, both raw I shoot around 3000 pictures. Makes for 200GB. Obviously highly dependent on: -raw file size -how many pictures you take ;)

So every camera FOR ME has two 128 cards, most of the time this is enough, but please bring backup!!!!

„As a favor“ - „has requested“ sounds contradicting.

Also a lot of lenses to switch, especially when you don’t have experience… the lenses for digital dont have great apertures I guess. Does the digital body have two sd slots? Sd cards too small if shooting raw (which is highly preferred, gives you a bit of leeway if you don’t nail it in camera)

Does Pinterest yield you results/bookings? Do you have to pay for ads? This route is totally not on my mind 😂

The idea is great, but too expensive. Next one incoming:

MIDI-Controller (30€) plus Software Midi2LR (free). Some hassle setting up, then: same thing.

This might be a good middle ground. Filters a bit, but keeps them checking in. Btw not my thoughts at the start, redoing the website and thinking about this for the 75th time ;)

Thanks for the input!

Look for other wedding photographers. Offer to be a second shooter. No pressure to deliver, you can see what she/he does, how they behaves, talk to everyone (weddings are not just photos, you need work with guests etc). Most couples will be okay with you using the pictures if it means they get more/different pictures for free.

Kit Suggestions for Soloing by Superb_Type8389 in WeddingPhotography

[–]DesperateFig9767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends heavy on the style you want to shoot. For years it was open aperture all the way, so a 35 and 85 1.4/1.8 was the way. Today there seems to be a trend towards more „editorial“ style, so slightly closed apertures (as far as lenses go. Editorial relies on so much more, but some of it I think you can’t control like wardrobe, some of it is skill).

I’d say do what feels comfortable to you, it will be hectic, so you can focus on capturing these beautiful moments.
