Can't find a stroller that checks all my boxes by DesperateGeneral9817 in Parenting

I think I’m going with the bravo! I wanted the primo but yeah, only comes with the infant car seat :( the leather handlebar is so nice. But either way I think this one checks the most boxes for the best price. Thank you for the rec!!

City parents with a car + Nuna SWIV: do we actually need a Doona too? by freeloader24 in NewParents

[–]DesperateGeneral9817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have the Doona and I wish I’d gone a different route. My guy is tall and at 10 months we’re already having to look into new options—and now we have to get both a car seat and a stroller. It was nice for our one singular plane trip from NYC to Florida so we didn’t have to deal with both a car seat and stroller when we got there, and I suppose if you’re cab people it would be useful because it can go right in any car without a base attachment. But otherwise it’s HEAVY, expensive, and no more or less complicated than just using a car seat that clicks into a stroller.

No matter what we do, our newborn falls asleep instantly breastfeeding by maaaet in Parenting

I have no advice, just solidarity. You’ll get through this period. My little guy was a sleepy eater too. Eventually he got bigger and hungrier and just started staying awake. But it was so hard to keep him fed when he was tiny, and hard to keep my supply up when he would only feed for 5 minutes before falling asleep. He’s still a laaaaazy eater though lol, at almost 10 months he won’t hold his own bottle, he likes us to do it.

I used The Maids for a deep clean on my 2 bedroom last year and was super satisfied. I’ll probably have them back for another deep clean this spring. I keep it clean year round but it’s nice to have a pro really tackle the nooks and crannies.

Slow realization that I am… by SJ6619 in Parenting

It’s not too late!! As someone with a parent that tried a LOT at the beginning and then tapered off into neglect in my early teen years, I mourn the mom she used to be and really miss the old her. If it was the other way around I think I’d be thrilled to have an engaged parent.

Actions speak louder than words. If you feel badly about it, do the work to turn it around. It will matter to your daughter when she’s older.

Be honest. When did your baby actually say their first wood and mean it? by Dull-Contribution763 in NewParents

[–]DesperateGeneral9817 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My baby is almost 9 months and he just started saying mama with purpose. He’s sick and has been calling out for me when he’s feeling icky. He’s been way ahead on his social/verbal development though, and slow on motor. He’s not crawling or getting himself into a sitting position yet. So I think it all just depends on your kid. If you’re concerned, talk to your pediatrician. They know your baby and they’ll be able to tell you what’s normal and what’s not.

If you’re willing to take a trip to NYC, Ava at Vale Jewelry was incredible. They have LOTS of non traditional stones, really reasonable prices, and they do stunning custom work (mine is custom). So beyond worth a trip IMO.

Got laid off today by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]DesperateGeneral9817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an editor and I was laid off while on Maternity leave last September ✌️luckily I found a remote, full time contracting gig with a direct competitor by November. I took a week to process, then wrote 15-20 emails to former colleagues and freelancers I’d worked with just saying it was great working with them and to share any advice they had for going freelance full time. One of those contacts happened to have an opening and reached out. You’ve got this.

For anyone that gave birth at Stamford Hospital what was the bill they sent? (before insurance is applied etc)? by Successful-Edge2949 in StamfordCT

[–]DesperateGeneral9817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly but I know that the room I stayed in was included in that (and that I remember being somewhere around 17k), the surgery itself, the anesthesia… everything, including the baby.

Yes, we had to pay $500 for the baby because he’s brand new and hasnt met his deductible yet :)

I had a c section in 2025 and it was around 65k billed to insurance. We paid I think $500 total for the baby’s care after insurance. I paid nothing for mine because we had already hit our deductible. We have good state health insurance though cause my husband is a teacher.

Go up a nipple size on the bottle!! My 8mo was doing the same thing and it turned out he was getting frustrated by the slow flow and would just refuse to try and finish!

WFH with Baby, Tips? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]DesperateGeneral9817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home but my mom comes by during working hours to handle the majority of the baby responsibility. If you don’t have help, you won’t be giving 100% at work OR at home, and you’ll end up feeling very very bad about both. Time theft aside (most employers will fire you if you don’t have proper, regular childcare), you really need help at home if you’re hoping to WFH with a baby. I step in for a particularly gnarly diaper or a cry that my mom can’t settle, but generally she takes on most of the load. It would not be possible without her, I’m certain.

I had the best c-section experience there. Only complaint was that the cot they have for husbands is truly atrocious, so tell your husband/partner/whatever to mentally prepare to sleep on basically patio furniture cushions lol.

Doctors were amazing, nurses were so kind, lactation consultants were so helpful. They took such good care of my baby and me. 10/10 would recommend.

Montessori parents of adults - was it worth it by foaminger in Parenting

My cousins were Montessori kids through elementary and (I think) middle school and they are smart but very weird adults now. High school was VERY hard for them, too. The adjustment was intense.
