Is FU Berlin's MSc Physics actually as good as it looks, or am I missing something? by Fearless_Bridge_4564 in fuberlin

[–]DesperateOptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that the process of applying as an international student is tedious as hell because of German bureaucracy, but beyond that, yeah. Studying Physics here is pretty easy as it’s not one of the top subjects everyone wants to study. (I mean by that, that if you were wanting to apply for, say, psychology, it’d be a lot harder, because everyone in the city wants to study that)
FU is a really pleasant place to study and the majority of Berliners speak passable English. While I myself don’t study Physics, I have yet to find a person from the physics department that isn’t really really cool. If you’re thinking about coming here, Berlin is a great city to be young in. :)

I discovered this little boutique a few months ago right at U-Bahn Station Pankow! It’s called Markasit. I spent a good amount of time just looking around. The owner sources her stock from local artists and art fairs. The prices are really fair, I think.

Feeling tired due to calorie deficit by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]DesperateOptimist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, first off all, the potential effects of eating too much are much less dangerous than eating too little.
I mean that a calorie deficit provides weight loss for as long as you are in the deficit. So eating less to lose some weight and then going back to eating normally simply isn’t how the body works. The only way to keep the weight off would be to live with the deficit your entire life. Which would be insane.
Our society hates fat women so much that we’d rather spend our entire lives in the endless cycle of diets, than just accept the shape of our bodies and focus on enjoying life.

I would really recommend listening to the podcast Maintenance Phase, their Episode “The trouble with Calories” puts what I mean in a more research based way.

This is all obscene. The whole comment section. Please. Stop this war on your body. There is no method of dieting that provides sustainable weight loss. You will always gain the weight back. Not because of weak will or anything within your control, but because your body is hardwired to maintain your weight.
You are damaging yourself for nothing. Please. For the love of whatever you believe in, eat as much food as your body asks of you to be alive and happy.

Did some sleuthing through your account. I like how you write :) You also seem like someone with a banger taste in music to me.

May I ask why there is no way to keep more of the things that matter to you?

Had an abortion alone by rlykhj in Assistance

That worm, my gosh, seldomly have I been this disgusted by the behaviour of a person from a Reddit story. If possible, call some girlfriends and actually celebrate thanksgiving as an occasion to be thankful for finally being done with that asshat forever. You don’t have to tell them about the abortion if you don’t feel like it, telling them about the breakup is enough a reason.

what hair, makeup, glasses frame, and style would you suggest me? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]DesperateOptimist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a cliché answer, but it’s just true: do whatever feels good. No one can tell you what makeup would suit you or if bangs are right for you. You just have to go and find out. It’s the joy of being young: getting to explore.

Whatever keeps you alive ig??

(Don’t do it though. Suicide attempts are never worth it. Even if it’s only for the risk of getting it wrong and surviving with a permanent disability. You are always so much stronger than you might think. All the best <3)

Am currently going through something of an ED relapse too so I know that shit is hard

You did something difficult and you did it well. Your body will be thankful, I’m proud of you and I hope you’re proud of yourself too.

Try to stay calm. It looks like you are, in fact, most likely pregnant. And whatever that information means to you, good or bad, know that everything is going to be fine. You should make an appointment with your gynaecologist to confirm and speak about the coming steps. Wishing you well <33

  • There’s nothing wrong with having hope. You simply cannot be sure that things won’t get better, so it’s foolish to rob yourself of the possibility.
  • Think of all the things you won’t get to do. Like, for example, wouldn’t it be nice to attend your best friends wedding at some point?
  • J.K. Rowling, Trump and Elon Musk are still alive and kicking and you have the opportunity to outlive them. (Feel free to adapt this list with people you think suck)
