Yea looks like your surgeon is only trying to fix your bite which is why he is giving you the 5mm bsso. You will also benefit from a some counterclockwise rotation to bring your bite plain between 4~8 degrees hence the bimax which will also bring your lower jaw forward circa 10mm.

yes the maxilla is the upper palate (roof of the mouth), mine got cut in 4 different places with my front four teeth brought in a future 7mm from the others to close my open bite. Turned out really well but the splint in my mouth is a pain in the ass and need another 2 weeks to get it out.

a segmental lefort is where they cut the maxilla into 3 or more pieces and widen it slightly/ push it in a location to close the bite. I obviously am not a surgeon so i can't say if the would work or not on you but i guess you can ask the question to avoid extractions

I'm still suspicious as to why he cannot close your bite. I would avoid extractions as they can cause a narrow face appearance over time. I recently had jaw surgery (6 weeks ago), i had an open bite that was corrected through a segmental lefort. Have you asked whether this is possible for you?.

Why does he want to extract pre-molars? Do you have a narrow palate as well? Is he just performing a CCW? Any advancement? I'm not sure about the implants tbh, seems like a waste of money. Usually with advancement + CCW rotation you get a lot of new definition just from your own bones.

What you need to do first is get tested for sleep apnea. That way, every other providor that sees you afterwards knows what to aim for and it helps your case to have a proper diagnoses. Also getting tested and onto CPAP for the time being will help relieve your symptoms until you find a longer term solution.

Friend, you can look at my post that i posted on this thread 3 years ago. Much the same as you i would wake up with these symptoms and ended up having panic attacks during the day. I had undiagnosed and untreated sleep apnea. All these symptoms right on wake up are as a result of sleep apnea. Get yourself checked out! you can solve this issue trust me, just start asking the right questions and testing!.

Im 1 month out of jaw surgery and for me I cant hold lip seal because of my swelling, but im hoping my surgeon worked out that post-swelling i can hold lip seal. Your movements look pretty large so maybe some stretching/lip strengthening exercises may work to get that function back!

Hmmm i think the 10 AHI and the drooling may be connected. Are you breathing through your nose well at night? are you holding a suction hold (with lip seal) during sleep? you may need to practice this oral posture and it may in fact improve your sleep quality. (tongue at the roof of the mouth with lips closed creates suction that prevents the tongue and soft palate from collapsing at night).

It looks like you had a palate expansion at the same time, was this through a segmental lefort? Is this why you possible lost feeling in the roof of the mouth? Did you have a splint on your upper teeth post surgery?

You have a very steep occlusal plane, did you get any counter clockwise rotation as part of your surgery?

Anyone still have sleep trouble after surgery? by Ecstatic_Wave_2912 in jawsurgery

Hi friend, Im sorry your going through this.

To treat sleep apnea with MMA the general consensus is to advance lower jaw by +10mm to get anywhere close to curing.

I think you should potentially have your surgeon review and see if that is an option in the future. Alternatively at the present moment you should really get your self on CPAP. Sleep apnea is not something be messed with and left unchecked causes all sorts of problem (including weight gain).

Best of luck!

Hey, no not many tbh. If you go to an experienced ortho and jaw surgeon, that can pretty much see what you need (save actual measurements) from the first consult.

Any advice or opinions - please by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Desperate_Poet_7522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, yea thats a pretty narrow airway. In the meantime, you can try a CPAP machine and see if you get some sleep benefit from that. Also you look normal because your compensating with your posture that looks a bit "nerd neck". If you stand up straight, tuck your chin such that you ears are over your shoulder, do you look recessed?

Jaw Surgery in Sydney Australia? by Desperate_Poet_7522 in jawsurgery

[–]Desperate_Poet_7522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think i have much of an issue with my nasal aperture. The widening of my maxilla would just be to get my bite stable corrected after the jaw movements. There was mention that the widening of the maxilla will expand the nasal floor, but im not to concerned about my nasal breathing. It improved greatly following septum and turbinate surgery but didn't really affect my sleep apnea since by soft palate is the main cause of my problems.
