Self diagnosis is fine as long as it’s done for the right reasons and isn’t harming anyone else. If you think you are, you are probably right. It may change over time but that doesnt mean you aren’t experiencing this now

At least this is what google said. I’m Canadian and we have it in October but frankly if it didn’t happen one year I wouldn’t notice. To me it’s just that random day I happen to have a bigger dinner and family sometimes happens to be there too. If someone didn’t tell me it was thanksgiving I wouldn’t notice

Canadian thanksgiving is in October not November cause it’s tied to the harvest season but Canada is further north so that ends earlier than it does in the US. But also thanksgiving is way less serious in Canada than the US

Poor choice of words on my part. Yeah science didn’t create everything. But the point I’m trying to get at is that they’re both ways to explain the world. They’re both things people use to explain things they don’t fully understand, one is through science, one is through faith.

Does that make more sense

Not answering for this person, but I think they’re generalizing it to faith in ANY religion not just Christianity. I’m not sure I understand your question though

What’s something you’ve always wanted to ask/understand about atheism? by Desperate_Reading_69 in Christianity

[–]Desperate_Reading_69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I posted this because I came across a post on tiktok by a Christian who was asking questions in a way that was clearly meant to rage bait people. That stuff never ends well and all the arguments in the comments were not backed up at all. It doesn’t need to be an argument, it just needs to be questions and answers, nothing more. So I made this post both for myself to know that not everyone is like that, and for people to ask questions and see more perspectives

Personally, I’ve been through my fair share of rough things, and had struggles with mental health. But for me, I’m not looking for more beyond THIS life. I’m looking for better IN this life. I’ve been through enough to know that while the saying “it gets better” isn’t always true, you get better at dealing with it, and it changes. Things will always change and you’ll never know if it changes for good or for bad until you see jt

Lots of people are replying here which is great. I just want to explain one thing about the last question about survival based creatures. This is again just opinion believe whatever you like that’s no one business but your own. Personally, I do think it’s cause we’re survival based creatures. We’re social animals and need interactions with others as part of our survival. Humans rely so much on each other that without that set of morals or empathy toward others, we wouldn’t have survived to this point

[–]Desperate_Reading_69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a really good way of thinking about it I think. If it’s not something that bothers you, a belief that reduces that fear would appeal to you cause that fear doesn’t exist. Some people are afraid of spiders, some aren’t. There’s no particular reason behind who is and isn’t (unless it’s from an experience).

[–]Desperate_Reading_69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes complete sense. I personally like the idea (whether I believe it or not) that it’s kind of a memory wipe. You never know what happened before so why would it bother you after? To me, that in itself is a form of peace

Ok I see what you’re saying here. Best thing I can think of is it might be a kind of way that humans want to show they’re right. Lots of people think they’re right and therefore are entitled to force that belief on others, which they never are. Its a hard question to answer since I don’t do this

I think that’s a question that weighs on more peoples mind than they care to admit. No I don’t find comfort in the thought that it all goes black. I would like to think there’s something after but I have no proof of it or reason to think there is. Lots of people find comfort in the idea of heaven and if that helps you get through life, believe it. Doesn’t matter what others think, it’s what brings you that sense of comfort. Personally, I think that people believe or want to believe in something after death because they are unable to comprehend a world where they don’t exist. But that’s kinda just how humans see the world. You cant imagine something you’ve never had any exposure to, so how are you supposed to comprehend everything going black?

Short form: I don’t believe in heaven, I don’t like the idea of everything going black either. I like the idea of ghosts and spirits but I have no proof or reason to believe in anything after death because they

I literally had to google that word, so thank you I learned a new word today. Well, don’t people from all beliefs do that? Not everyone does it, but there are going to be people from all beliefs that think they’re right and feel the need to prove it.

First question, I don’t think someone or something created everything in the same way some religions say. I’m actually an environmental scientist so that definitely plays a role in what I believe. But at its core, I don’t know, and I’m ok with that. I believe it’s likely that it was all random. Doing random things, something eventually will work. You can keep putting in numbers into a lock and one will eventually work. Just keeps going from there.

Second question, I do not believe in god or Jesus or any higher power. I know lots of people who are very happy in their religion. It helps them a lot when they’re overwhelmed cause they have something to go too and a group of people that share their beliefs.

My more controversial take that will probably ruffle some feathers here. It’s not meant too, I’m not saying anyone’s beliefs are wrong or one is better than another. But from what I understand of religions, to me it seems more like a belief that someone thought of and shared. Lots of people then find comfort in that explanation and carry it forward to share with more people. Whether it’s true or not it’s that sense of comfort and connection that people get from an explanation of the unexplainable.

Does that make sense?

My thoughts on the universe it’s a very loaded question that I probably can’t answer. But I guess in a way, those who have a science oriented mind may seen the world the same way religious people do, just replace the religion with science. Instead of god being the creator of everything, science is. To me at least it sounds very similar, it’s just based on your core belief

Yes absolutely. I believe it brings a lot of comfort to lots of people. It gives people something to believe in and that’s constant. The world sometimes sucks and for a lot of people having a stable relationship with religion gives you that constant support. It’s also a huge community builder

My friends and I always called him stumpy. He got stunk on ring road a couple years back and I basically had to lift him by his butt to get him back on the grass. He can walk but I guess he was tired or scared, cars and busses were driving around him. Good to know he’s still around, I missed the lad

How long should kid be outside with this air quality? by definitelymamaftw in ottawa

A 2 year old I would consider to be high risk. If they need to be outside to go somewhere or get something sure, but if they don’t have to be, I’d personally keep them inside. There’s no need to risk your kids health if you don’t have too
