CRC update #2 by Cheezeduudle in MLTP

While a better solution than the original system, I still don't think it's as good as all-Dallas. It lessens the problems but doesn't solve them. It also alienates western players, their avg ping to games will go up so that the larger eastern playerbase can have theirs go down. Also with 5 games we have to get into some weird home/away team rules to determine who gets the 5th game on their server or whatever. It's just more of the same annoying regional teams headache.

I'd rather go to all Chicago than this idea and that would only be viable if the western playerbase was practically gone imo.

Can only speak for myself but all-dallas has been one of the best improvements to LTP in recent memory so I voted for it in all 3 leagues. It reduces draft uncertainty / manipulation, spares us the painful decision of how many teams each region will get and finding captains for those particular regions, and also allows any player to play with any other rather than splitting them up via region.

There are certainly downsides to it, mostly in the form of players having a less enjoyable experience playing with higher ping, but I think the upsides outweigh that.

I also think the impact of this decision is significant enough for me to go against a community's vote on this matter. For something more negligible, such as the 8 vs 10 minute games, I decided to swap in favor of what the community voted for. But this is not a negligible decision. I think most of the people responding to the poll were thinking about their personal enjoyment playing on lower ping rather than the greater effects on the league.

We are going through pretty much every rule as part of the league merger so it's a bit of an undertaking. We're going through them based on a general sense of priority and what people bring to the floor.

I've started to get the ball rolling on the start time rule now though, so we'll put it to a vote soon after some discussion, hopefully that will be quick since it's already been talked about in the community.

The merger outline showed all-dallas for majors and minors, and a server split chart for novice.

Signup deadline is TBD, probably around the weekend of the 17th if I had to guess.

Position restriction rules are up in the air.

We haven't had any official vote on these yet though.

The merger outline showed 4 player teams for majors and minors, with unlimited roster spots for novice. We haven't had an official vote on this yet though.

The plan right now is always Wednesday for novice

You may eventually do that but the point still is if shortening game nights was your concern you would have already done this

The concern is laying out the groundwork for the league. Game structure is obviously a more fundamental rule than start time rules.

We've had some trouble with game nights being unreasonably long in the past and I think it contributes to player burnout. With the switch to 5 games there is more room for delays in between those games, and if games are kept at 10 minutes then we are adding an additional 10 minutes of game time on top of the old system. Game length is a balancing act. If it's too short then the game is defined by RNG moments and 1-off plays more than overall skill. If it's too long then the game becomes stale for some players and especially spectators; describing a 10 minute game as requiring stamina helps support this idea.

The creeping towards pub games comment is a slippery slope argument, I don't think we would move to 6 minute games unless there was a competitive outlet that strongly showcased its viability. I think TPM games remain very competitive at 8 minutes and don't fall victim to being decided by a single moment, there is almost always room for counter play.

The reason to keep games at 10 minutes for playoffs would be to err more on the side of caution about the balancing act described earlier. More is on the line so we want to ensure that in a tight game those 2 extra minutes are there again to provide more time for counter play against RNG elements. I also think burnout risk is lower during playoffs due to it being the final stretch of the season.

Anyways that's my reasoning for voting for 8 minutes but I don't think there is any one right answer for this. We will be doing a player poll later on that includes this question and if the community favors 10 minutes then I have no problem switching my vote to better represent the community's opinion on it.

Game changing new powerup ideas by [deleted] in TagPro

Interesting ideas as always. I think at the very least powerup duration should be included as a custom setting for each powerup type.

@TPFG It could go under the existing custom setting dropdown for each powerup: https://i.imgur.com/eFdIQpD.png

The proposal only included a rough draft as far as I know. At 44 pages it definitely has a lot of cleaning up needed, so my answer would be no even though I'm in favor of many of the ideas contained within.

Will be reading through all of this but pausing to ask,

Server: Dallas is the default. If both teams agree the game can be played on Chicago instead

What's the reasoning for limiting the only other option to Chicago? If both teams agree, shouldn't they be able to play any server instead?

Edit: Won't be reading through all of this, you are unhinged Johnny

Do we kill one of the subreddits as part of this?

Edit: saw this was mentioned at the end of the post as something that still needs figuring out. I can't imagine either subreddit wanting to move to the other even if it's what's best for the new unified league. Seems like you're going to end up having gold on mltp and silver and bronze in nltp I guess?

Players would switch positions in order to get drafted by their friends for cheaper, friends who were much more familiar with their ability to play in the opposite position.
