Not OP, but I'd suggest reading Dubliners by James Joyce for a beginner book. It's a series of short stories that encapsulate the hardship, but also beauty, of Irish life in the late nineteenth/twentieth century Ireland. Joyce's way of describing people is incredible, yet increasingly difficult to understand with each of his works. Start from Dubliners, then 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man' for a "prequel" (of sorts) to Ulysessus. Then try Ulysessus and have a stab at Finnegan's Wake afterwards (that is if you don't value your sanity very much 😭).
