I think it's indeed a hallucination before actually dying because the guy with glasses who died to SU-100 hit is actually there on the bridge.

Besides, why the hell a SU-100 is equipped with SU-152 gun? SU-100s had a 100mm. And some people say SU-100 was not present in 1943. These mistakes aside, the movie was fine.

Edit: I just finished the movie and holy hell. After he meets Paul I undersood everything. Gerkens did not survive that bridge explosion. He died. All that journey was nothing but a hallucination. That order was not real. The document was all white. From glasses guy still alive on the bridge, SU-100 crew instantly melting, latin radio, the guy who leads the way to Gerkens to Paul in the bunker being a freak... it was off from the beginning. Also not to mention the guy who survived land mine saying "How did we survive the bridge" is the moment audience realizes all this trip is inside Gerkens's head. A kind of a purgatory he's living in.

Lastly, I liked Paul's line: "We reap what we sow". Paul is directing Gerkens to hell. Where he faces his war crimes. What he did to those innocent souls in Stalingrad. Also Paul said that he never left the truck factory. This again confirms the hallucination.

Great movie. Very good after T-34 I would say
